Lost a patient in the CICU tonight; she had a massive pulmonary embolism. Code Blue & resuscitation attempts lasted over 2 hours.
She had a history of DVT and was supposed to be on anti-coagulation but hadn’t received her meds “for months” because of insurance authorization.
Walked out the hospital after a work day from hell to see my car missing — someone crashed into it & totaled it while I was saving the literal life of a crashing patient & getting yelled at by another patient’s wife for a mistake that the urologist made.
How’s your Friday going?

Point is,

is a lost cause whether it’s Khan, Bhutto, or Sharif. Pakistan will not prosper and thus has no future unless they become more tolerant of their minorities and actively work towards human rights. The leaders won’t budge. The citizens should. Mark my words.

I don’t see this as a proud brag-worthy tweet you’re portraying it to be. Also, decrease your prices by, like, 90%. Your inflated self worth is sickening. It’s severely nauseating how you take advantage of underserved, underpaid, and overworked students.

… we don’t want their money.” Imagine a collection of souls so dark and evil running such a great organization. Little did he or his people know that the person sitting next to them single-handedly running their annual hide campaign nationally was one of those ‘mofo’s’ 🤷🏻♂️
Lost a 24-year-old patient today. Had no time to process that defeat when another patient down the corridor in my ICU coded. They were determined to celebrate their 36th birthday next month. I failed to help them achieve that goal.
This… calling, takes a heavy toll this Eid 💔
This 2015 photo was taken by a paramedic in front of a hospital in California. It shows an ER doctor who stepped outside to cry for a moment after losing a 19-year-old patient. Minutes later, he walked back inside with his head held high, and continued on to his next patient.
“You’re Pakistani?! Born and raised THERE till you were an adult? 😳 But your English is so good and you have absolutely no accent! You don’t sound Pakistani at all!”
Yeah, what, am I supposed to sound like a mooing cow at the side of the road?
As medical students and doctors, we abuse our bodies all the time. It is expected and even celebrated. We take pride in how little we can eat or sleep. How long we can spend standing in an operating room without scrubbing out, to use the bathroom, or eat, or sleep.
Lost a 21-year-old patient to cancer today. Even as his demise became inevitable, his spirits soared high, him comforting his family at bedside, preparing them for his departure. It was an honor to have served him.
People often ask how I get past watching people die.
I don’t.
Remembering the day I had a 94 year old acutely delirious patient in the ED. Her 65+ year old son brought her in after a massive stroke. She wanted food. Told her she’s NPO.
She said, pointing to her son, “no, for him, he hasn’t eaten anything all morning taking care of me” 🥺

Lost 2 uncles and 7 friends I grew up with. Saw several more left with lasting, debilitating injuries.
12 years and counting.
Gone but never forgotten. Miss you all 💔

No, I do not want anything in return.
Yes, I do this because it makes me happy.

This account needs to be suspended. More than half the stuff it reports is misinformation for social media attention.
This is in fact an animatronic crocodile that was used as a prop in the production of the 1999 American horror film, Lake Placid.

Someone I know is on chemo, suffering from Stage IV cancer. Today, I took him for a James Bond style old-school spa treatment for a head shave. He was so busy providing for his wife and kids he forgot to ever spend on himself for 65 years; he cried today. May God give him health.
A ridiculous number of doctors I know have a massive god complex. The way patients behave only feeds into the complex. I’ve made it a life mission to emphasize to my colleagues and patients that ‘we are not gods; we are His messengers. We don’t fix the body; it heals on its own.’

the whole world will spit on my diploma and what I stand for.
Today’s been a hard day. Gave the worst of news to family members of three patients. Tell them I couldn’t help them; they were too far gone. All COVID. All unvaccinated. Felt like a piss poor doctor. A failure.
Plz get vaccinated. I don’t have the energy to pull anymore plugs.

When I first immigrated to the US, I saw first-handed how distant parents and their children here were. It genuinely made me sad. In my culture, parents and children and grand-children are super-duper close to each other. Your tweets about your parents make my heart smile! ❤️
My timeline is flooded with

Thinking of making biryani today.
Like everything else, I try to be as authentic as possible — if you’re going to do something, do it right.
Well, turns out saffron is literally the most expensive food in the world.
Yeah, so authenticity can go out the window.
The day you realize your parents are only human, may you have the strength and patience to grant them the love and compassion they have garnished over you your entire life. Love them for who they are. Not for what you wish they were.
If someone collapses around you, stop WHATEVER you are doing and tend to their needs. This video doesn’t demonstrate tradition or honor — it’s a glaring example of stupidity. That is how people die. First and foremost, look out for those around you.
People always ask me if I would ever go back to Pakistan. My answer is “no” before they can finish their question. If I ever did, it’d be to visit places like these. And that’s a big if. Drove on this road with mum and dad once.

Isn’t it? Scientists spend years and decades learning a phenomenon, come up with conclusions with its rightful caveats, and then people with no scientific background portray their opinions as scientific facts, and since media knows what sells, they exploit it for ratings.

Don’t “fake it till you make it.”
That’s garbage advice.
Face it till you make it.
Get up. Work hard. Fail.
Stand back up. Face it again.
Do a little better. Fail again.
Get back up. Repeat.
Never. Ever. Quit.
You have not failed till you quit.

personal statements, I see the sheer talent, passion, grit, and determination of every single applicant. Those who previously went unmatched, I feel sorry for the residency programs that could not see your potential because you all are pure GEMS! ❤️
Your parents did the best they could with what they have been taught. No parent willfully wishes harm or evil on their child.
Forgive them and move on. Pray for them.
You have less time with them than you think.
These are luxuries that we don’t need to function. But we couldn’t be farther from the truth. Prioritize your health: you can’t pour from an empty cup. The best way to start loving someone is to get familiar with what you love about yourself. Your patients deserve that.
@awsumpowers
Have a pocket sized notebook. (Keyword: pocket sized) Jot down a MAXIMUM of 2 things a day you want to learn about linked to your patients. Spend 15 min per item at the end of the day. After a year, there’s over 700 things you have mastered. Spaced repetition is also your friend.
If you are suggesting that a patient didn’t get her anticoagulant “for months” while in the hospital, may I suggest getting off the internet and reading a book or two on how healthcare works. Your ignorance and the itch to gain attention over someone’s death is despicable.
