May you smile today! What did the triangle say to the circle? "You're pointless!" Why did 7 eat 9? Because you're supposed to eat 3 squared meals a day! What do you call a number that can't stay still? A roamin' numeral! Why was 6 afraid of 7? Because 7, 8, 9! What did zero say to eight? "Nice belt!" Why did the math book look sad? Because it had too many problems! What do you call a cookie that went to math class? A smart cookie! Why did the equals sign become a gymnast? Because it's good at balancing! What did the calculator say to the pencil? "You can count on me!"

This is a fascinating boxing math fact, albeit the boxer had a tragic ending. Sonny Liston, a heavyweight boxing champion, had an 84 inch reach. A boxer's reach is the distance from the tip of one finger to the tip of the other finger on an outstretched arm. The average reach for professional boxers is 71 inches. Boxers with a reach that varies from the average may be considered to have a long or short reach. Liston's fists were 15 inches (38 cm) around, which was the largest of any heavyweight champion. He required gloves that were specifically made for him.

“The truth is that when we scrub joy and comfort from the classroom, we distance our students from effective information processing and long-term memory storage,” Willis ( 2007). When students are happy and engaged in class it jumpstarts learning. Willis notes that students “achieve higher levels of cognition, make connections and experience “aha” moments.”
