A huge congratulations to the SoftBank Hawks for an incredible first half of the season! With 55 wins and a stellar .655 winning percentage, they’ve dominated the Pacific League and are 10 games up.
@HAWKS_official
Jeff — your two main points are dead wrong. A team hasn’t ever sent all their draft picks to Driveline instead of playing a season. And an injury rate of 65% (or “between 64 & 66%“) for any program we’ve run is absurd.
Step Backs are a great drill for teaching hitters how to load into their back hip and coil the pelvis and torso evenly during the load phase of the swing.

Jack Leiter threw 124 pitches in yesterday’s start and the internet got mad.
The thing is: workload management for pitchers is a little more nuanced than “pitches per start”; a thread.
Ladies and Gentleman this is Johnny Vu. A 17 year old trainee living in his van outside of our facility getting some dry reps and cooking a steak after his long day of training 😤 What's your excuse?
Here are two synchronized pitches from January ‘20 (Red) and January ‘21 (Green) from Dillon Tate.
Red is 93.3 mph, Green is 95.4 mph
There's no guesswork here.
Efficient arm path and movements don't matter if the trunk pulls you out of them too early/at the wrong time.
Both these athletes create the same amount of "scap load", but at very different times and with very different trunk positions
Trunk angle:
Red: >50 deg
Green: <10 deg
Congrats to Driveline Trainee Matt Brash on dismantling hitters this year striking out 107 in 70.2 innings. We put together a special montage of Matt's strikeouts with some fitting music 😂
Marco Gonzales looking great in his first outing, giving up 1 ER and running his fastball up to 91.4 mph which would be the hardest fastball he's thrown since 2019 🙌
A great story of how Sean Manaea in one off-season went from his average fastball velocity being 91.2 mph to topping 97.2 mph 😮💨🔥 as told by
@langintots13
Congrats to Driveline Trainee JP Crawford on a monster 2023 at the plate, tripling his home run total from 2022 while improving his average by 23 points. 🔥
Congrats
@jp_crawford
👏
The incredible story of how Nick Pivetta changed his season around by adding a new sweeper and increasing his fastball velocity from 93.4 mph in 2022 to topping 97.4 mph in 2023 as told by
@langintots13
🙌
We like the palm up, palm down med ball throw as movement prep for hitters who struggle disassociating and maintaining spine angle.
The grip encourages the hitter to sequence properly and use larger, stronger segments to transfer energy from the ground up.
Growth is non-linear. There are plateaus, drops and spikes. Expecting these, and managing emotions accordingly is important. Just make sure you're heading in the right direction over time.
pitchAI puts the Driveline Biomechanics Lab in your pocket.
Instead of a pricey multi-camera markered motion capture lab with a full-time biomechanist to run it—we’ve been hard at work with our friends
@DrMikeSonne
@proplayai
to bring that same lab to your iPhone and TRAQ.
Kona Takahashi of the Seibu Lions getting started with his training here at Driveline! Led through exercises by Pitching Trainer (and former MLB pitcher)
@brandonmmann
Pretty disheartening to show up to the field today to unlock cages for alumni, only to come across a major break in and theft to all storage and equipment sheds. Lawn mowers, 3 wheeler, bats, balls, among other various tools and equipment just gone.
Driveline Trainee and Free Agent J. D. Martinez (
@JDMartinez28
) looking great in a recent bat speed training day using Driveline Bat Speed Trainers 💪
This tee variation is a drill we use to address low early connection.
The back tee keeps the athlete from dropping their hands as they enter their hitting zone, creating an early connection around 90°.
