A speciality trainee doctor from North Middlesex University Hospital (North Mid) has scooped a regional paediatric award from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (@RCPCHtweets ). Freja Mahler, specialty trainee in paediatrics and neonatology, was named RCPCH’s senior trainee paediatric award for training achievement (PAFTA) winner for the London region. The annual RCPCH PAFTA awards commend excellence in paediatric training with a focus on supporting colleagues, patients and their families. There are three award categories – junior trainee, senior trainee and educational supervisor. Freja originally joined North Mid in 2020 for her first job as a paediatric doctor, returning three years later as a paediatric registrar in 2023. Her work sees her care for patients across the paediatric wards, A&E and the neonatal unit at North Mid. She was nominated for the senior trainee PAFTA by her educational supervisor Yoke Sin Hoh, who is a consultant paediatrician at North Mid. Yoke Sin said: “Freja is an exceptional registrar. Her willingness to go above and beyond in supporting her colleagues and wider clinical team have earned the trust and respect of those who have the pleasure of working with her. This award is well deserved.” Speaking about her win, Freja said: “Getting an award like this feels pretty incredible and it’s given me confidence that I’m doing the right thing, and hopefully making a difference. I think it’s also a testament to the team at North Mid – it's a great work culture and the supervisors are very supportive. It’s all thanks to them.” 👏👏👏
