Congratulations to Professor Marcellus and his dynamic team—Dr. Rabbinu, Dr. Virly, Dr. Nikko, and Dr. Ahmad Fariz—on organizing the inaugural #IUS Intestinal Ultrasound Workshop in Indonesia! This workshop is being held in conjunction with #JIGES 2025 (Jakarta International Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Symposium), the Indonesian Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Society Annual Scientific Meeting. The workshop was held at Indonesia Clinical training and Education Center (ICTEC) Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital – Faculty Medicine of Indonesia University. I'm honoured to have been invited as a speaker, trainer, and part of this wonderful workshop. There were 40 participants, and given the existing skills and knowledge of Indonesian GI doctors in liver and pancreatobiliary ultrasound, they quickly grasped the techniques of intestinal ultrasound. It was a pleasure working with such an enthusiastic group of learners. We look forward to further collaborations and training opportunities for intestinal ultrasound in Southeast Asia. #ASEAN Intestinal ultrasound is revolutionizing #IBD monitoring by providing non-invasive, real-time insights into the bowel, ultimately transforming patient care.

I'm busy with my clinic and on call this week with a bleeder that came to ED at early hours today. The topic of microplastics and gut health warrants our attention! Closed my clinic and put aside my clinical work this morning to attend to Melody FM, sharing on the impact of microplastics and gut health. It was a fruitful discussion. The take-home message is: The issue of microplastics is unavoidable! Its implications are man-made. It will take many more decades to solve this, but the effort begins today—from you, me, and us! The DJs are already wearing green, how about you? 🌍 #Microplastics #GutHealth #Health #Environment #Radio #Discussion #Awareness #Change #Action #Future #Melodyfm

Congratulations to Professor Dao Van Long and Professor Dao Viet Hang for successfully holding such a wonderful gastrointestinal updates meeting under the Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Thanks for the invitation to talk about "Approach to managing IBD in Asia." Managed to meet Professor Tomaoki Matsumura and Professor Sunny Wong. Great catch-up! Here are the key takeaways: * The burden of IBD is increasing in Asia. This presents a growing challenge for healthcare systems across the region. * Diagnosis can be complicated by the high prevalence of tuberculosis and limited access to healthcare. Differentiating between these conditions is crucial for effective treatment. * Advanced IBD treatments are not a universal solution due to cost, potential side effects, and limitations in their effectiveness. A balanced approach is necessary. * The key to successful IBD management lies in early diagnosis, effective monitoring, and maximizing the potential of conventional therapies. This emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive and proactive approach. * An accelerated step-up approach may be more feasible than a top-down approach in resource-limited countries. This strategy allows for a more tailored and cost-effective treatment plan. * Intestinal ultrasound has the potential to reduce diagnostic delays and improve disease monitoring and intervention. This accessible technology can play a crucial role in enhancing IBD care.

Another IUS live demonstration and hands-on workshop. This was part of the PHKL-TASSID IBD Forum concluded on 26 October 2024. It was attended by China, Taiwan, and Malaysia doctors. Thank you to Mohd Fairul Bin Limun for assisting in this workshop. More people are committed in doing IUS. In fact, IUS is like a stethoscope to doctors who are treating patients with IBD. It provides rapid access, low cost, accurate, safe, comfortable, and more importantly engaging process to our patients. A picture speaks a thousand words. Patients appreciate more when they can see their disease activity themselves. IUS is a powerful tool in revolutionising IBD care.
