Laura Kuenssberg has to be one of the worst interviewers of all time. She does *nothing* to challenge Shapps' serial lies and misrepresentations here. 1. She asks whether what Israel is doing is 'proportional'. Kuenssberg allows Shapps' clearly false premise that Israel is acting proportionally to stand. But the starving of Gaza's population of food, water and power alone is a crime against humanity. 2. Shapps cites approvingly an Israeli model based on the firebombing of civilians in the German city of Dresden – long acknowledged as one of the worst atrocities committed by Britain during WW2. This comparison started as an Israeli talking point – and was intended to silence criticism from western allies. Shapps now embraces this atrocity. Even more astonishingly, Kuenssberg nods it through. 3. Shapps throws in the entirely evidence-free claim that Hamas carried out beheadings – another Israeli talking point, this one seeking to draw a parallel with ISIS. Even Biden had to walk back that lie. Kuenssberg just sits on her hands. 4. Shapps frames the problem as one of Hamas using Palestinians as human shields. But it is Israel that made Palestinians human shields by penning them all together into one of the most overcrowded places on Earth for the past 16 years. Kuenssberg is missing in action once again. 5. And, of course, don't expect Kuenssberg to do the real journalistic work of interrogating Shapps about the context in Gaza: that it's been under an ever more brutal Israeli military occupation for more than half a century.
