I woke up today and decided with little to no reason that I was going to make a major change. I literally saw a tweet on the TL that got me intrigued. I’m going to come back to this tweet in a few months when I’ve done what I said I was going to do.

Today I finished my Google Cybersecurity Certification. I’ve never felt so dedicated to something. During work hours, after work, and on the weekends I worked on this. I never wanted to quit. Security+ exam up next. 🤓.

Y’all, I got both job offers!!!!!!!!!!! 😭 I didn’t even finish interviewing for the second one. It’s scheduled for Tuesday. I told myself on 2/28/24 that I would give myself 6 months to find a Cybersecurity role and I got the offers today. 😭.

I had a friend get a Cybersecurity offer today with zero tech experience. He got the Sec+ back in April and recently got his CISA cert. What worked for him was networking. He sent LI requests, he sent emails, and he got on the phone with people in the industry.

So for me, I started with the @Google Cybersecurity Cert on Coursera. Finished that in 3 months. Started applying for jobs in Feb/March. I had a job offer for two Cyber roles by March 29. I started my new role on May 1 and and I sat for my Sec+ and passed on May 7.

So, we talk a bit about friendship breakups, but not enough. One of the most painful things that ever happened to me in my LIFE was when my best friend of 20 years completely ghosted me. Less than 2 weeks after I served as the maid of honor in her wedding.

If you’re looking to get into Cybersecurity and don’t have any technical skills, the best way to get your foot in the door is a GRC role. Get your foot in the door then learn the other skills and move around. It’s much easier that way.
