Either Porter was unjustly accused, in which case an independent inquiry is the best option for the truth to come out, or he wasn’t, in which case an independent inquiry is the best option for the truth to come out.
So let me get this straight. The Murugappan family from Biloela have to be locked up for years, but Katie Hopkins can waltz right in? Who decides who comes into our country and the circumstances in which they come?!
I hereby recommend that the premises of Four Seasons Total Landscaping in Philadelphia be purchased by the US Government and turned into The Donald J Trump Presidential Library, Museum and Total Landscaping Warehouse.
The ABC has proved in the past 6 months that it’s an essential public service for all Australians. It provides indispensable, reliable help during emergencies, whether fires, floods or pandemic. Defunding it is against the national interest.
@ScottMorrisonMP
should think again.
Exclusive: Friendlyjordies producer Kristo Langker has been charged with stalking John Barilaro. Langker's lawyers described arrest as "highly alarming" and criticised the "shocking" use of the fixated persons unit, set up to counter lone actor extremism
Starting to think maybe, just possibly, we might have to help vaccinate people *outside* Australia to be safe *inside* Australia. Radical thought, hey?
Just got a temporary crown put on my tooth. We’ve gotta talk about dentistry being covered by Medicare. It’s crazy that this one aspect of essential care is treated with a US-style user-pays system. Is it because dentistry is a different degree to medicine? Makes no sense.
I’d love to know what the cost of ordering enough Pfizer for everyone last year would have been compared to the vast toll of lockdowns and restrictions…
We need a way for companies like
@Optus
to confirm identity without needing our DL/passport/Medicare. It should be possible for MyGov to generate a one-time code that confirms who we are to a 3rd party without them seeing the numbers. And why did they *ever* need to store them?
The first serious discussion about male behaviour and consent I ever experienced was at 20, in criminal law. The lecturer introduced the first class saying that overwhelmingly, criminal law was the study of male behaviour. She was right. Men have a near-monopoly on violence.
If I’d followed the new close contact rules a few weeks ago when someone at my house got COVID, I could have gone to work asymptomatic and infected colleagues. I was negative via both RAT & PCR on Tues, but tested positive via RAT on Wed. Won’t lots of people spread it like this?
Apparently Tony Abbott is going to criticise Malcolm Turnbull as elitist today. I guess when you went to a different GPS private school, attended the same uni, and live near a different set of Sydney beaches, you get an amazing feel for the proletariat.
One of the insidious things about working from home is how it shifts costs from employer to employee. Faster internet. Better desk/chair. Turning a room into an office – while companies are cutting down on property costs. They should subside setup costs or even chip in for rent.

This is an utterly heartbreaking final tweet from anybody, let alone someone as widely admired as Father Bob. I want to understand what happened, and why.
Lyle, God wanted Daniel Andrews to win. Just like he wanted you to lose the marriage equality referendum in a landslide. Clearly God wants Safe Schools, too. When will you trust in His plan instead of following your own human desire for media coverage and a Senate job, Lyle?

. Either voters are comfortable with 🏳️🌈 gender fluid cultural Marxism being taught to their kids or they simply don’t know. Can only think ignorance & apathy in play. If this is not the reason, then Aus is in big trouble.
If it looks like a coup, and it waves around firearms like a coup, and it storms the seat of government like a coup, and it leads to the evacuation of frightened lawmakers like a coup, and it wants to overthrow an election like a coup, maybe let’s call it a coup?
So most networks broadcast a Hillsong Christmas message yesterday? Is it our state religion now? Most Christians I know view that church with great scepticism – and its leader was criticised by the royal commission for his actions in dealing with his own dad. Merry Christmas all!
Are Australians comfortable with our PM going to DC and singing the praises of a man who clearly despises the multicultural views we say we hold dear? Trump is going the full Fraser Anning. Do we all just keep pretending this stuff is perfectly reasonable?
So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly......
Many outlets have reported that the extra 20m Pfizer vaccines have been “secured”. Not really. They’ve been ordered. Important to use accurate language instead of replicating spin – as this isn’t a solution, just a potential one – and a very late one at that.
I am someone who needs regular medication, and the idea of getting twice as much when I refill at the pharmacy seems pretty convenient. What’s the basis of the current scare campaign? Do pharmacists get paid half as often?
A fond and forlorn farewell to Oscar, the most loyal, eccentric and ridiculously photogenic of dogs. Rescued ten years ago, although of course he rescued us right back, and still regularly mistaken for a puppy in his final weeks. RIP, lovely boy.
Someone said to me the other day that Australia is the only comparable country that lavishes public money on stadiums – which are then used by codes that operate as private businesses. How has this evolved? And do the codes pay a reasonable rent or is it an ongoing subsidy?

INTERRUPTING the President to say that his speech is riddled with false allegations. I’ve never seen a news channel do this. Impressive.
Okay, so this is pretty chilling. I just got a fake call from “Border Force” saying they were suspending all my bank accounts – and it came FROM MY OWN MOBILE PHONE NUMBER. The announcement was computer speech with an Australian accent. What can be done about this?!
Just trying to explain to my daughter how men are all called Mr but that traditionally we insisted women’s titles specify their marital status and honestly, we still have quite a lot of work to do, don’t we.
Having Chinese warships in Sydney Harbour on the 30th anniversary of Tiananmen is a stupefyingly bad decision. Who made this call? The symbolism won’t be lost on China.
I don’t know how many times we interrupted John Howard’s morning walk but it must have been well into double figures. The AFP only ever said no projectiles or sudden movements. (We complied, wanting to get the shot rather than just shot.)
Today just four people got ACs, the top honour we have. A former PM, an eminent scientist, a rabbi with decades of community engagement – and Margaret Court, who already had an AO for tennis. Why a higher award, now? Who specifically decided? How can they justify it? They must.
We are such utter douchebags towards First Australians. Even flying the Aboriginal flag on the Harbour Bridge is too much to ask, apparently. What would obviously be a gesture of reconciliation can’t be tolerated if it seems a concession to the “black armband view of history”. 🙄
Is this the real Downer? Looks like it. If so, what a gobsmackingly ignorant and offensive thing to say to a man who has given his life to others, and is still doing so at an advanced age. Some might not share his politics, but Father Bob deserves respect and admiration from all.
Amidst all the lurid details and media kerfuffle, let’s not forget that Justice Lee thoroughly and forensically outlined his finding of fact as to what likely happened inside the ministerial suite, and it is shocking and distressing – and vindicates Brittany Higgins’ story.
Rapid antigen tests are very hard to find all of a sudden. In some places they’re provided free by the govt - in Aus, $10-15 each, if you can find one. As the surge begins, do we need to rethink how they’re distributed?
I hadn’t realised that the English FA had *voted against* Australia and NZ hosting this World Cup. Thanks, England! Thank goodness other countries had more sense.
Here’s a thought experiment – should we just make public transport in Sydney free? Turns out electronic ticketing is very expensive and Opal is apparently on its last legs. What would happen if we just took the barriers away?
I miss the Chaser election show days – it was such a privilege to be publicly funded to annoy politicians.
Expecting to have a bit of fun in the Chaser Report election edition podcasts, though – starting soon.
Bert Newton was so brilliant, so wickedly funny and so lovely – we were lucky to have him on our screens for so long in so many incarnations. Perhaps we should rename the Logies “the Berts” after him so they mean more than they do now – they were, after all, very much his night.
My daughter turned one today. From a tiny, vulnerable creature to today’s crawling dynamo who wants to try every bit of grown up food and can’t wait to walk, it’s been a (nearly) entirely enjoyable ride. And that bit where your kid calls you “dadda” and smiles? It’s pretty good.
Unsurprisingly,

I was proud to work at the ABC during the summer bushfires with a hugely dedicated team, who spent several exhausting months covering an unprecedented series of emergencies, bringing the best information possible to people in dire need, 24/7. The ABC is an essential service.
Dear fellow Australians,
Let’s all vote Coalition in the 29th Newspoll, every single one of us, no matter what our politics are. It would mess with Abbott so beautifully. Please pass this on.
People keep forgetting just how quickly the case count spread in Victoria. It was terrifying. That’s why the lockdown was so harsh – and nowhere in the world have numbers come down this quickly without one, incidentally.
Dr
@NormanSwan
says the COVID curve in Victoria has been utterly smashed... And says he can't find an example anywhere in the world where it's been done so successfully

Last night, our Bluey got her Bingo. Delivered by an incredible all-female caesarean team. We are overjoyed – and I am still making appalling dad jokes.

We could make it simple. For every luxury apartment tower, developers have to build a low income, social housing one. Factor it into the costs. Otherwise the whole of inner Sydney will just turn into a luxury resort – it’s already well on the way.

It’s SO FRUSTRATINGLY AUSTRALIAN that in the middle of several increasingly scary lockdowns, we’ve allowed in someone who’s not just one of the UK’s most infamous public racists, but a massively irritating lockdown skeptic. (Also, she’s taking a job from one of our worst celebs.)
I adore working for the ABC, but for years, I’ve been a casual with no security of employment. There are many like me at Aunty. We’re relied on some days to keep the place on air – on many others there’s no work. The loading doesn’t compensate for the instability. I’m
