Fantastic Shark Fundraiser hosted by @Caybrew1 last Tuesday evening. Since 2008 a portion of every bottle, can, and draught of White Tip sold goes directly to DoE’s work to study our local sharks and to provide outreach in our local community. Thank you @Caybrew1! #Sharks

The Jamaican fruit bat (Artibeus jamaicensis) helps fruit trees by distributing the seeds far and wide, enabling more trees to grow. This bat can carry fruits 1.5 times its weight; in its mouth! That would be like a 150lb person h holding a 225lb bag with their teeth!

#KnowYourSharks Carib. reef & nurse sharks have relatively small home ranges though occasionally move long distances. Generally, sharks are less abundant in areas with high human activity and more abundant with higher prey availability. #CaymanSharkWeek2023 #ProtectWhatYouLove

Sharks are protected in Cayman for their socio-economic & ecological benefits to Cayman. We appreciate the many anglers who release sharks alive & quickly. For how: (Video: Richard Orr, Blue Water Excursions) #CaymanSharkWeek2023 #ProtectWhatYouLove

#KnowYourSharks Shark populations are small. We have less than 200 Caribbean reef and approx. 350 nurse sharks in Cayman. It is a special event to encounter a shark in Cayman and a sign that our coral reefs are healthy and thriving. #CaymanSharkWeek2023 #ProtectWhatYouLove

Bat Count Cayman is still going strong. The Strang Family made some new furry flying friends in South Sound. Every night this colony of velvety free-tailed bats can consume thousands of flying insects.
