It is with profound sadness that I announce that my cancer has returned.
I have been informed that the leukemia that I beat in 2017 has relapsed. I will be spending the next several days trying to find the inner strength that I need for another fight, and will have a more
If Edmonton waited a day, they could have Ryan Suter instead of Duncan Keith, at a lower cap hit, and keep Caleb Jones and a 3rd. If that's the direction they were looking.
Jeff Marek is the best host in hockey. And he's also a true kind soul. Throughout my two battles with cancer, he always took the time to shoot me private notes of encouragement.
If he indeed parted ways with Sportsnet, they lost a good one. And it is indeed their loss.
Long overdue update
I was recovering well from my March 13 transplant. March 29 - all good, progressing well. But then things took a turn. March 30 I got pneumonia again and had difficulty breathing and was put in ICU. March 31 they had to put me in a coma and machines were
Tomorrow is a big day for me.
I love the NHL trade deadline, of course. And I'm covering it - pizza and beer in hand.
BUT
Tomorrow is also Day +180.
Six months post-transplant. This is a major milestone for stem cell transplant recipients.

Man, the

made out like bandits in that Erik Karlsson trade.
The Sharks get a shell of what he once was. And pay out the ass, too.
The Sens essentially get Tierney, Norris, Stutzle and Sogaard/other prospects.
Next week I will be given a date for the transplant I think.
Oh, I was also told they have a 100% donor match for me. They are using a different donor this time. "A new army to fight" is the reasoning they used.
Update: After 37 days in the hospital, I’ll be going home tomorrow. The pneumonia is completely gone. If I can stay healthy, I’ll spend the next few weeks receiving treatment as an outpatient before going in for a stem cell transplant.
Health Statement (and why the hockey statement was so late): I was admitted to hospital on Tuesday with pneumonia. With immunity at 0, this was obviously a massive concern.
This is mostly behind me now and I should be out in 3-4 days.
This took 5 blood transfusions and 17 bags of
Update: I am now in the hospital. Induction chemo begins in ~30 minutes.
Stem-cell transplant in 6 days!

In 8 days it will be my 5th re-birthday.
So 5 years ago on August 30, all of my bone marrow was wiped out, and a world donor's stem cells were injected into me. Seems so long ago, but I'm doing very well now and in the best shape of my life.
Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you have a wonderful day with family, friends and plenty of good food.
I'm excited to still be home for today with the wife and kids. Staying healthy is the best gift for me
Six years ago today I was released from hospital after a stem-cell transplant from a matched-donor that cured my leukemia.
Going through some minor struggles, but by and large doing well.
I documented my battle here:
Cale Makar is the first player – ever – to win the Hobey Baker, the Calder, the Norris, the
#StanleyCup
and the Conn Smythe.
Don’t forget: he’s only 23.
Some players doing so well in camp they're forcing their way onto the roster even though there may not have been a spot for them:
Matt Poitras, BOS
Fraser Minten, TOR
Mackie Samoskevich, FLA
Zach Benson, BUF
Emil Andrae, Bobby Brink, PHI
Cole McWard, VAN
Parker Ford, WPG
And with the release of my Midseason Guide, I'm happy to announce that I'll be returning to the Ramblings on a semi-regular basis (to start).
I'm back Monday!

For the first time in nearly 17 years of doing this (pre-dates DobberHockey, going back to my Hockey News years) - I have now removed Jaromir Jagr from my Keeper rankings template.
A moment of silence please

If they're a new company not ready to publicly launch yet, this makes sense. It also explains the discount. Not the deal of the century, as I've had similar arrangements before.
Best course of action is to take the man at his word that the company will get credit when the company
So cute how many of you under 35 think that Connor McDavid is better than Wayne Gretzky in his prime.
That was the best goal I've seen in years, but let's not get carried away. Not even a discussion. Gretzky is 🐐
Do you think Celebrini is actually trying during Dev Camps? Or you think he’s actually getting pushed around? 🦈🌟🥅

Bell took $131M in government labor subsidy here in Canada.
Then they increased dividend payments to shareholders.
Then they laid off 210 employees, including at TSN.
A travesty.
Why would the government allow this?

Four years ago I received a stem-cell transplant to cure my leukemia.
Happy to report I am still going strong, healthy as ever.
As I was going through my fight, I jotted down the experience here:
I just heard the demo for my first radio ad that will be up on

later this month.
Surprised to feel pretty emotional about it. Like I've come a long way.

I think I'm paying about $350/year to get every channel that carries hockey that I can.
I can't believe there are still games that block me out (MTL/STL). Isn't it 2024?
Pushing fans towards pirating, I guess...

@Sportsnet
Sportsnet is just so...bass ackwards.
The app isn't on Roku systems yet, and they've had several years to get this done. But it IS on Prime...but you have to get a second subscription? Otherwise sync your phone and stream that way?
What about two TVs and two different games? I

This fall, when Darryl (

The

Seems only fair.

I would have Erik Karlsson on my team until June 30 2019. I would make public my offer of "max salary, max term, whatever NTC he wants" and leave it until then.
How on earth does Ottawa have no leverage? They don't have to trade him at all right now.

Nikolaj Ehlers confirmed he injured his neck in the 2023/24 preseason 🤕, affecting his entire season 🏒. He needed rehab (no surgery) and missed playing with Denmark 🇩🇰 this past spring. With a full offseason of recovery 🛌, Ehlers is ready to be a key fantasy asset—if used

Next week is a busy one for the NHL:
Monday Evening - NHL Awards
Tues - NHL released 2023-24 regular season schedule
Wed - NHL Entry Draft 1st round (DobberProspects has four on site to cover)
Thu - NHL Draft Rds 2-7
Fri - day of rest!
Sat - Free Agent Frenzy!
Tampa Bay got four points out of Tanner Jeannot in the season, zero in the playoffs and scratched him at the end.
Nashville got four points out of Cal Foote in the season, zero in the playoffs.
Nashville got Foote, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th for Jeannot.
Incredible.
My thought on this is - had the 30 GMs just let a player go, per the rules, Vegas would still suck to this day. Suffering would continue.
But instead, many GMs tried to game the system. Find loopholes. Strike deals. Protect guys.
Vegas played them like a fiddle. Good on them.
@DobberHockey
As a Leaf fan I will never be a Vegas fan because of the way the league made it so easy for them to be a contender right away. I guess it is the same for Seattle. Where is the pain? Remember when Washington came in? They paid their pain and got a cup. OK with that. Vegas did not.
A lot more fans today have 60+ inch 4K TVs with home theater, access to replays and beer in the fridge...and now actually prefer it to cramped seats, long lineups, dirty bathrooms and $15 giant beers.
Confirmed. Thanks all.
Brady Tkachuk could soon be the first player to have 300 SOG and 300 Hits in a season.
He is at 218 SOG and 244 Hits right now

Brady Tkachuk is on pace to be the first ever 300/300 player. 300 SOG and 300 Hits. He will do it on game

Normally, yes. But I have to admit - my recovery is going very slowly and I find myself exhausted later in the day. So instead of working on it until 2am, I have to quit at 9pm. Plus the odd nap. It's been a tough go!
But the Guide will be out on time for Monday

Players - hate it
Agents - hate it
GM's - hate it
Fans - dislike it
Owners - love it (Gary's bosses). The unfortunate reality, as they watch the $$ roll in.
Just trying to quickly pro-rate the John Tavares contract using Evander Kane as a comparable.

The following trade was just vetoed in my league, Martin Jones(ranked 209)and Reilly Smith(165) for David Rittich(213) and Jonathan Drouin(81). Veto worthy or not?
Am I the only one who thinks a deal like Monahan (who's a salary dump), Tkachuk, Pelletier, a 1st and two prospects for an injured Eichel is too much?

The Hockey Canada board is fighting so hard to stay in power, I've honestly never seen the like.
It must truly be a sweet gig to fight so vigorously to hang onto it.
If only they fought this hard for the victims
My favorite is when someone has a draft in 8 minutes and they buy my stuff and then write a panicky email saying they don't know how to find the download then a minute later write in demanding a refund because we didn't get back to them quick enough & their draft is starting
Instead of being anchored for 5 more years at $6M AAV, the
#Oilers
are anchored by $5.75M AAV for 4 more years.
Now they need to trade Neal for Eriksson, cut it down to 3 more years.
Then trade Eriksson for Kovalchuk at 2 years. Then Kovy for Clarkson rights and voila - free!
Update on my battle with AML:
I received some bad news. For the second time, my transplant has been postponed. The donor failed their medical.
They will try to get the next donor as quickly as possible, but this delay could be anywhere from two to six weeks.
More waiting.
Quick thought on Vegas being exempt from the expansion draft - probably shouldn't be the case. It's four years later, assets have been built. They can seriously game the system here and load up on players who would be exposed by other teams via cheaper trades, etc.
