Dear Reviewers: Don't reject because we made it look easy. Making it look easy is hard work. Don't reject because our solution is simple. Simple solutions often have the most impact. Don't reject because you can imagine additional experiments. There's a page limit.

No, you don’t have to work ridiculous hours to do meaningful work in AI, and it’s harmful to normalize the idea that long hours are necessary. I’m really disappointed to see OpenAI endorsing such exclusionary practices.

Power corrupts. This is why it’s bad to concentrate more and more power in the hands of a few — they will use it to exploit those with less power. Thus, technology that further concentrates power hurts the marginalized, even if it offers some benefit to all.

Many white men treat “racist” and “sexist” as the most damning curses in the language, rather than as attributes that apply to most of us to some degree. Am I racist and sexist? Probably! Let me know how, and I’ll try to do better.
Furthermore, pointing out someone else's racism, misogyny, misogynoir, gaslighting is not a personal attack against them when it's TRUE. And there are plenty of receipts here.

I’ll say this publicly one final time: that block list was an error of judgment. There are plenty of innocent kids on there caught in the crossfire for liking a single errant tweet. Allies, let’s please never use, disseminate, or defend it. Let’s all move on together.

@pmddomingos @AnimaAnandkumar Grades are due tomorrow. I should be grading finals. But here I am, defending myself and my people, broken hearted that someone I learned so much from and looked up to for so long doesn’t respect their humanity.

@pmddomingos Sorry that I misparsed your metaphor. Would you like to clarify who is like Stalin, so I understand who’s victimizing me right now?

@dan_p_simpson @timnitGebru Agreed. I’m skeptical of all large corporations, but @timnitGebru was proof to me that people can still do excellent work for the good of all from the inside. I don’t know what’s going on at Google, but it sounds tragic.

We live in a society where male is “default” and female is “other,” and the considerations of men are taken more seriously than those of women. If you’re a guy, what can you do to make society a little less unfair? A good first step is to listen.
