Researchers at the University of Alberta have developed Zelenirstat, a groundbreaking cancer pill that stops cancer cells from growing and starves them of energy. Early clinical trials have shown promising results, with some patients experiencing a 30% tumour reduction within weeks and extended survival times. The drug has been fast-tracked by the U.S. FDA, meaning it could be available sooner than typical treatments. The pill is particularly effective for blood cancers like lymphoma and leukemia, as well as aggressive solid tumours. However, funding remains a challenge—$20 million per cancer type is needed for Phase 2 trials. If successful, Zelenirstat could revolutionize cancer treatment and improve patients’ quality of life.
