númenor propaganda. mírendil truther. here for cynthia addai-robinson and lloyd owen mostly, a dollop of sad crimes, and terminal jung woosung brainrot.
she's contemplating her entire existence after surviving the sea worm, he's already planning their beach side wedding in his head

why did we stop talking about how durin elfsplained and gaslighted gil-galad into giving away furniture??? it's one of my favourite scenes, made funnier by the fact GG absolutely knew he was being played and hated every moment of it 🤭
in 103, where galadriel is like "i am galadriel, from the golden house of finarfin, commander of the northern armies of high king gil-galad," and halron is like "halbrand." that's 100% funnier with the halron reveal
annatar using his blood to bind the nine whilst tricking celebrimbor into thinking that's crushed mithril is so sleek and evil 😭 i hate that gaslighting blorbo but i also love him

"But perhaps the elves need only remember that it is not strength that overcomes darkness, but light. Armies may rise, hearts may fail, yet still light endures..."
perhaps this is why she gifts frodo the phial w/ the light of Eärendil's star
what if míriel tells elendil to put aside the sea captain and become who he’s born to be - leader of the faithfuls - and gives him narsil the same way elrond told aragorn to put aside the ranger and become who he was born to be and gave him anduril
I love Elendil’s commitment to treason and anarchy in the name of his situationship with míriel. more númenoreans should aspire to be like him

eagle: good morning i am here to bless—
king’s men: omg the valar want pharazôn as king!
eagle: that’s not what i—
king’s men: pharazôn! pharazôn! pharazôn!
eagle: fuck it, this is beneath my pay grade

what was interesting to me was when she said pharazôn predicted how elendil would react and said that his hatred for the king's men would turn into hatred for her. she was manipulated by pharazôn into thinking elendil's faith was actually his pride

I realise Twitter isn't the place for nuance, but it is actually possible to watch this scene and understand both Elendil and Eärien's perspectives.
okay but the brooch the númenorean commanders wear in RoP is literally a fucking ouroboros, which is meant to represent the cycle of destruction (númenor's fall) and re-creation (the survival dúnedain)
okay but the framing of this shot is so deliberate. i do have a theory. after he takes over as king, maybe they receive word about the siege of eregion and a call for help. he's hesitant and the kings men obviously are against it. 1/3
tbh elendil is actually pretty shit at dealing with his grief. when his wife died, he took a lot of that out on his kids, especially isildur. now, he's taking the pain of isil's 'death' on eärien. anárion remains MIA like the true middle child that he is
the funniest thing i have seen on twitter since monday has been people's heartbreaking, horrifying realisation that lloyd's elendil hair was a wig 🤣 also, crew cut elendil actually looks pretty badass
nothing but respect for RoP cast members who never hesitate to drag fëanor and the noldor for all the problems on middle earth during interviews. and by that i mean nothing but respect for lloyd owen 😌
it's the way throughout ep 3-7, elendil was portrayed as the protector, the leader, the one everyone else looked to in times of crises. then in ep 8, we had míriel not only recognise but also call out the fact that he himself was in crisis, and she offered to be his anchor??? 🥺
i am re-reading the hobbit & tbh fandom would be a much more peaceful place if people recalibrated their expectations & accepted that film/tv adaptations will never be a 1:1 translation of the books. not just due to the medium but because these projects are by nature interpretive
personally i think sophia nomvete, owain arthur, cynthia addai-robinson, and lloyd owen should get waaaaay more screen time than they're getting in season 2 🤷🏾♀️
My favourite part of this intro is the lighting of the beacon to signal the ship's arrival to the harbour. Friends who have only watched the movies immediately recognised that and asked if this was Gondor, so the creative decision to establish the connection here was top notch
Some of the takes on Reddit about the new TRoP cast announcements are so excessively cruel to the S1 cast members. The acting was never the problem and to reduce the OG cast's efforts to "Amazon is finally serious about TRoP by hiring big names" is a lame take
tony leung did not make a city of sadness, chungking express, happy together, hero, in the mood for love, 2046, lust caution, flowers of shanghai etc only for western audiences to refer to him as the actor who played shang chi's dad 😭
"for elendil, personally, there are some impossible choices between the love for his country and the love for his daughter. and that is further complicated by some of his feelings for [miriel], which just plays into the family dynamic." ARE YOU KIDDING ME 😭
"Elendil has to see for the queen, and she has to teach him to how to interpret the events that he's seeing for her. It's almost like his leadership qualities are being taught to him [for later]."
ARE YOU KIDDING??? Míriel molds him into the future high king of Dunedain?! 😭❤️
i'm still laughing at this because after his failed attempt in season 1, he just decided to bleach his hair and try again. if this isn't mairon at his core, a wholly unserious maia with nothing but time at hand, then idk who he is
Honestly if RoP and the new LotR movies get casual viewers interested in the books, especially the less mainstream ones, I consider that a win. The sheer number of people on here who started reading the Silm and bought TFoN after RoP S1 is heartening
sorry but this is such a petty thing to complain about. every one of my normie non book reader friend could discern the locations of each arc in S1 with zero issues
i need you fuckers saying bear mccreary is no howard shore to understand that he is one of the most in demand composers today and that he wasn't a nobody before rings of power
everyone go see this interview (link below) where lloyd, ben, & trystan are asked to colour. if actors are a reflection of their characters, then pharazôn had a meticulous 12-step plan to overthrow the valar while elendil & gil-galad formed last alliance on vibes alone
so remember how when númenor first sent galadriel away, the white petals started falling? it was a portent that in her absence, sauron had free reign to corrupt the island. because míriel, who we now know is a faithful, was in power, they averted the downfall.
As mentioned from our report last year,

Production and editing team had problems around balancing out then Numenor storyline in Season 2 in relation to screen time.
“Sources close to the situation and speaking to FoF have revealed that during the initial round
lloyd's talked in several interviews about how RoP will take elendil from the current grieving sea captain to the first high king of the dúnedain over the seasons and i can't wait to see that transformation.
they sat on this clip for over a year before uploading yesterday 😭 this was from last year's monte carlo tv festival that cynthia, lloyd, maxim and owain attended
i love how whenever someone tweets about being new to tolkientwt and wanting to make friends, half of their replies are from the

. honestly these are some of the most fun people around in the fandom
remembering how narsil is formed from the root words nár (fire) and thil (light), which were symbolisms for the sun (anar/anor) and the moon (isil/ithil) but also for anárion and isildur. elendil's children being his light and his strength against the darkness 😭

There's one that will "take place not just overnight, but over multiple days, weeks, months and episodes".
