Genetics play a huge part in running. I’ll never be the fastest, I don’t have the genes for it.
That’s fine by me.
Lots of people run faster than me with less training.
And I’m happy for them!
I’m just out here trying to better myself.
Focus on yourself ✌🏻
Seeing friends on Strava making excuses for slow runs🐢
There's no need! You can't push it every day. It's not sustainable.
Run hard when it’s time to run hard, and take it easy when it’s not.
End the taboo around slow running.
It’s good for you, no excuses needed!
13 weeks until my shot at a sub 2:50 marathon.
Remembering my first runs, where I couldn’t run a mile, to now, where I’m training for a sub 2:50 marathon.
Doubts? Plenty
Fear? Absolutely
But I love it
Here’s to the fight, the fear, and finding out what we’re truly capable of.
My inner narcissist forgot to tell X that I ran a 100 mile week last week and didn’t die. So here:
I ran a 100 mile week last week and didn’t die. I used to not be able to run a mile so this was nice.
I’m not a perfect athlete and won’t preach like I am.
I eat fast food 🍕🍔
I drink beers 🍻
I love dessert 🍰
Am I leaving time on the table? Sure.
But I’m genuinely happy and that's all that matters.
7 easy miles this morning, 5 of them with my better half 🏃♀️🏃
Love that we get to share miles together sometimes. Just out there chatting and vibing.
Have a great Sunday ✌🏻️
My marathon times didn’t always improve, even with hard training. But after a DNF, I shifted focus - run often, run easy. And it paid off with a 2:58! Run smart, not hard 😉
Good morning Florida 🌅
8 easy miles this morning 🦌
The humidity out here is something else.
You must be an absolute animal if you train through these summers!
15 easy miles today.
Pace was slower than usual and that’s absolutely fine by me.
Didn’t sleep well last night - still battling with the jet lag!
Hope you’re having a great Monday ✌🏻
Happy Friday 🥳
Managed to squeeze another run in before I leave this afternoon.
Florida, it’s been swell. And hot. And humid. I’ll miss it!
Back to canal side running next week.
Have a great Friday ✌🏻
10 Mile Tuesday ✌🏻️
16.1Km Tuesday doesn't have the same ring to it 🤷🏻♂️
No running tomorrow. Travelling to Florida.
Stay tuned to see how this Irishman handles running in the Floridia heat and humidity 🥵
8 miles this morning.
Enjoying the change of climate. The heat and humidity make for tough but great training.
Feeling really good!
If anyone needs me, I'll be theme parking for the rest of the day 🤷🏻♂️
Dear Diary,
Today I hit 1000 miles for the year so far 🥳
I've never hit the 1000 mile mark this early in the year before.
And on Global Running Day too!
Excited for the miles to come 😍🏃

13 miles in the bank 🏦
A lot of travelling/socialising for work this week so the body didn't *love* this one.
But got it done, tomorrow will be better 😀
Don't underestimate the power of walking. It's marathon training in disguise!
Low impact and gets the heart pumping.
Plus, it's a mental refresh.
I'm deskbound most of the day, so I try and get a walk in during lunch everyday. ✌🏻️
Parkrun and coffee 🏃☕
Enjoyed taking it easy for the parkrun this morning.
Listening to my body after yesterday's 15 miles.
Such a good way to start the day.
Great vibes!
Hope you're having a great weekend ✌🏻️
7 miles in Florida 🌴
Shared the first 2 miles with Fiancée of a Hobby Jogger and the last 3 with Father of a Hobby Jogger.
So great sharing miles with them!
Running is a helluva drug
The best runners I know aren't the ones who crush every training run.
They're the ones who show up day after day, putting in the work.
Speed is built on a foundation of consistency.
People are always surprised by how fast I can race, given how slow most of my training runs are.
The secret? Those slower runs let me train more consistently and effectively.
I can race fast not in spite of slow running, but because of slow running.
Good morning to everyone except people who walk side by side on narrow paths and make me squeeze by them.
Sharing the path by going single file when someone is coming towards you is considerate and appreciated! 🚶♂️🚶♀️
10 miles today bringing me to 33 miles (53 km) for the week so far.
It’s all been easy running but really happy with how my body is holding up with this higher mileage.
Excited for the gainz.
Scorchio out there ☀️
To every runner feeling guilty about a 'bad' run:
You showed up.
You moved.
That's a win.
Some days are for breaking records, others are for building resilience.
Both matter.
Pick your car up from a service but make it a run 🏃
Yes, I always wear sunglasses.
But because I have THE MOST sensitive eyes in the world, not because I’m tryna look cool 😎
Embracing slow runs has completely transformed my training.
Building a solid aerobic base and running more without injuries has been a game changer.
Plus, knowing it’s going to be an easy day makes stepping out the door so much easier.
Most of your runs should be easy!
Trying on goal marathon pace. I think it suits me 😂
Didn't feel easy today. That's fine. It's not supposed to yet.
Amsterdam Marathon - I'm comin' for ya ✌🏻️
The face of a man who's been up since 3am to catch a flight home and go to work 😬
Was glad to get a nice 30 min shake out in this afternoon.
Looking forward to getting after it this week 💪🏻✌🏻️
Enjoying another rest day this week.
I often struggle with guilt on rest days, but I remind myself that recovery is important.
I’ve got a big training block coming up and I need to be careful not to overcook it.
All gas, no brakes is not sustainable!
Another 8 miles to finish off a 56 mile (90km) week.
I put zero pressure on myself to run out here. That's not the point of this vacation.
But that's probably why I ran so much.
Take the pressure off and enjoy it. It's easier that way ✌🏻️
Happy Monday ✌🏻
Rest day for me today.
This will be a cut back week.
Big training for a sub 2:50 marathon attempt starts next week.
I am SO excited for it!
Slow runs aren’t just for injury prevention - they’re also mentally important.
If every run is a strugglefest, you won’t look forward to running and you won’t build the habit of running consistently.
Knowing most of my runs are easy makes me excited to get out the door.
On Fridays we run half marathons 🤷
Still not feeling 100%. Having some stomach discomfort out there. Think I might have picked something up on my travels.
Much better than yesterday!
The weekend is here ✌🏻️
Slow running has its superpowers! 🐢💪
I averaged nearly 8:40/mile during the build up to my sub 3-hour marathon.
That's including speedwork, so my easy days were probably closer to 9:00/mile.
Don’t underestimate a good slow run.
End the slow running shame!
New runners: Your cardiovascular system is an overachiever.
It'll improve way quicker than your joints and muscles.
Be patient with it and give your body time to adapt to running.
Mr 10 Miles ✌🏻😎
Nice and easy 10 miler again today. Brings me to 43 miles (69km) for the week.
Feeling really good!
A cheeky 10k tomorrow and that’s my running done for the week 🥲
Have a great Thursday!
A European Eminem (8 kilometres) to round out another week of hobby jogging.
Slightly lower volume than last week, but I'm okay with that.
Highlight of the week: hitting 1000 miles for the year 🥳
Hope y'all had a good one 🙌🏻
How was your week?
Here’s my weekly recap:
🏃♂️ 43 miles ran this week
⏱️ New 5K PB of 17:55
☀️ Good weather
🏃 Good company

Consistency is the secret sauce.
A steady routine of easy runs will take you further than sporadic faster runs.
Keep showing up, and the results will follow! 🚶♂️🏃♂️
For years, I thought I needed to hit certain times to be a 'real' runner.
Even after achieving them, I still felt like an imposter.
The truth? If you run, you're a runner.
It took me a long time to accept this!
Don’t let your training plan rule you.
Adaptability is key.
Feeling extra sore or tired? It’s okay to take an extra rest day.
A missed run is much better than an injury that could derail your entire training.
Listen to your body - it’s the best coach you’ll ever have 🏃♂️🛌
Hit my weekly mileage goal today 🙌🏻
Had an unexpected extra rest day earlier this week and wasn't feeling super good.
Took it easy, listened to my body, and it all worked out
Beautiful day for 11 miles.
They don't call it Sun day for nothin' 😉🌞
Easy hour in the books.
As much of an advocate of slow running I am, I still find myself looking at my pace a lot.
I turned my auto lap off (another
@runliftrunlift
top tip) and the regular reminder of how slow I was running disappeared.
That was swell.
A lot of people starting out on their fitness journeys feel daunted by how long it'll take to get fit.
Remember: In 6 months, 6 months will have passed whether you lace up or not.
The question is: Do you want to be 6 months fitter or just 6 months older?
Running is a form of self-care. 🏃♂️🧘♂️
It’s time for yourself to think, reflect, and rejuvenate. Prioritize your mental and physical health by making time for your runs.
The power of positive self-talk is crucial. I don’t think it gets enough attention.
You need to believe in yourself and your goals.
I’ve seen runners set themselves up for failure with negative self-talk and excuses before they reach the start line.
Back yourself!
Walking is an underrated tool in running training!
When I set my marathon PB last year, walks played a huge role🚶♂️🏃♂️
🛡️ Low impact
❤️ Gets the heart pumping
🧠 Clears the mind
Heading out for a walk right now✌🏻
Comparison is the thief of joy.
Your journey is yours alone.
Whether you're chasing a 5-minute mile or a 15-minute mile, you're lapping everyone on the couch.
Run proud, run your pace.
People run past me all the time when I'm out there running easy.
I'm competitive, so I used to turn it into an imaginary race, trying not letting anyone pass me out.
But I’ve learned to let them go - no medals are given out in training. Stay focused on your own goals. 🏅🏃♂️
