As Zimbabweans, we mourn alongside our Namibian brothers and sisters, for the struggle that birthed an independent Namibia was waged in the same trenches as our own. Dr. Nujoma answered the call of history with unwavering courage, leading the Namibian people through the most grueling chapters of their fight for independence. From the days of exile and armed resistance to the triumph of March 21, 1990, he remained a steadfast pillar of freedom and self-determination. A man of vision, he did not only secure independence for Namibia but laid the foundation for a nation that would stand tall and proud among its peers, embracing the spirit of Pan-African unity. His passing on February 8, 2025, at the age of 95, is a moment of profound loss. Yet, as we reflect on his extraordinary life, we find solace in the legacy he leaves behind - a legacy of resilience, unity, and unrelenting dedication to the cause of African liberation. In Zimbabwe, we recognise him as a comrade-in-arms, a revolutionary whose footsteps walked alongside those of our own heroes - Robert Mugabe, Joshua Nkomo, Josiah Tongogara, and many others who waged the noble battle against colonial rule. As Namibia enters a period of national mourning, we extend our deepest condolences to the Nujoma and Kondombolo families, to his beloved wife, H.E. Kovambo Nujoma, and to the people of Namibia.
