What I wrote in the post below is wrong. The Labor Gillard government imposed the Medicare rebate freeze in 2013 with an end date of July 2014. The LNP were elected in 2014 and kept the freeze in place for 7 years. But it was Labor who started it. I'm sorry for misleading you.
As an MS patient, I have to see a GP regularly. Bulk billing has been falling for years bc the Medicare rebate wasn't increased alongside the costs of providing medical care. Angus Taylor blaming Labor is disingenuous, bc it began under the LNP and they had 9 years to fix it. 1/2.

I'm sorry. What I wrote was incorrect. I'll repost it with corrections. I was wrong about the LNP being responsible for the Medicare rebate freeze. It was actually introduced by the Labor Gillard government in 2013. It was meant to be a temporary measure ending July 2014. 1/2.

2014 saw the LNP back in power. Instead of lifting the freeze in July, they kept it in place for 7 more years. But we don't know if Labor would've lifted it in July either. Politicians breaking promises is hardly a rarity. Anyway, I'm sorry for misleading you, & I'll fix it. 2/2.

Oh yeah! Remember the Cheaper Medicines initiative? Labor created a policy where people could get a 60-day (i.e. double) supply of medicine on a single script, thus cutting the cost of prescriptions by 50%. Where was Dutton? Standing with the Pharmacy Guild, opposing it. #auspol.

I'm no Labor shill. But one area I can't fault them on is Medicare. They're rightfully proud of it, and they've fought for it ever since. Dutton is no friend to Medicare. He's changed his tune now the Lodge is in his sights, but we Aussies aren't that dumb. Are we? 2/2 #auspol.
