There’s a lot of reasons why the ai children’s book upsets me: lack of respect for the arts, disrespecting the craft of making children’s books etc. Most of all, it’s the idea that children don’t deserve media that takes time and effort to create. They deserve better.

As a kid, I used to rewatch whole episodes of SpongeBob in my head when I was bored in class.
It's baffling to me that some of y'all see stuff in your mind. You SEE it? The way your eyes see? I always thought "visualize" meant thinking of the words/ideas/feelings associated with a thing, not actual visuals. I am such a total 5 on this scale I didn't know 1-4 existed.

The general response I get is “All that for a kids book?”. YES all that! There in lies the problem: a lot of people disrespect children’s intelligence this way. They think because children’s media is “simple” that there’s 0 thought put behind it. Simple does NOT equal half assed.

It takes a lot of work to take “big” concepts and format them in a way that children can understand for their age. Children’s media isn’t just dangling keys in their face, it’s a way to help them navigate this big world they’re in.

Children are constantly surrounded by “big” concepts that no one seems to want to take the time to explain to them because the adults around them don’t think they’ll understand cause they’re young. But they CAN if you just have patience and get on their level.

That’s why children deserve so much more than a thrown together, ai prompted, mistake ridden, soulless piece of work under the guise of “inspiring” them. If you really wanted to inspire children, you’d at least TRY to put in the time and effort to do so.

More space on the top of the head gives the illusion that the head is a little bigger, which we typically associate with youth. More space around the chin gives the illusion of a more defined jawline.

I like this a lot because it works even for adults who have very round faces or bigger eyes. Playing with proportions instead of relying on size alone (ie. Height, head size, eye size, body type) allows for my diverse character design imo.

So a really good way to pick colors for brown skin is to use makeup swatches. I recommend Fenty for its range of shades and warm/cool/neutral tones
