I joined the Indian Business Forum in celebrating a decade of contributing to our economic growth through job and wealth creation. It's a milestone denoted by ingenious investments in trade, industrial processing and value addition, services, ICT, telecom and others. The relationship between Uganda and India continues to flourish on the common interests of development and prosperity.

This morning, I addressed the nation through the media at @UgandaMediaCent on the progress registered in the industrial sector. The industry sector contribution to GDP is 27.4%. This growth is attributed to an increase in manufacturing activities, which grew by a substantial 11.0% in the last Quarter of 2023/24. The manufacturing sub sector of industry continues to be a key driver to Uganda’s economic growth, creating jobs, fostering innovation and driving GDP growth. Manufacturing is the largest subsector under Industry, contributes 16.5% of GDP, provides direct employment to over 1,000,000 million people, and over 2,000,000 million people indirectly. In addition, manufacturing contributes 30% of the total tax revenue collections, which translates to 8.16 trillion. The number of industries has increased from 81 units in 1986 to more than 9,000 Units in 2024.

I attended the launch of a new brand of Farasi Metro Cement in Kampala. Uganda is now producing an amazing 6.4m metric tons of cement. With Africa’s population of 1.2bn and the steady growth of the construction sector, the cement industry stands to benefit.

It was a great honor to preside over the 101st National Day celebration of the Republic of Turkey at Sheraton Hotel last evening. I have received sad news about the sudden loss of lives of Charles Tayebwa, a S.3 student and a one Bosco occasioned by landslide in Rwamacumu Village, Kasheregyenyi Parish,Kamuganguzi sub county, Ndorwa cty West, Kabale District. My sympathies and prayers go to Mr. Rukundo Agrey and the family and the people of Kamuganguzi Sub-county upon this huge loss.
