Why should I, a diasporist Jewish anti-Zionist, who has always fought antisemitism, have to take notice of a Christian called Christian, who used to be anti-immigrant Tory MP, claiming that anti-Zionism is antisemitism. I am anti-Zionist because I am anti-racist.
“Let’s call it out for what is is: anti-Zionism is antisemitism”.
At yesterday’s statement on antisemitism in the UK, LFI vice-chair
@Christian4BuryS
talked about the “sinister” use of “Zionism” and “Zionists” as code for Jews in public discourse.
So I watched Stephen Fry’s “Alternative” Xmas broadcast yesterday hoping for some enlightenment, but was left wondering what it was an alternative to, and what a missed opportunity it was. 1/12
I made the mistake last night of watching Kendall v Corbyn on Peston. Corbyn answered questions directly and assuredly, Kendall just threw insults, pathetically trying to play the bully. She displayed the Labour Right's deeply dishonest, phoney war on antisemitism 1/7
Shameful GE19 intervention by unelected Chief Rabbi who does NOT speak for all UK Jews. GE19 is a 2 horse-race: Johnson's party of Go Home vans, racist insults, links to antisemites and Islamophobes in Europe v radical reforming Labour. Where is the Chief Rabbi's moral compass?
So the warmonger Netanyahu, with the blood of countless Palestinians on his hands, who has just passed a law confirming Israel as an apartheid state, feels he has the moral authority to comment on matters about Jeremy Corbyn.
Lovely welcome back to
@jeremycorbyn
who has come straight from the stress of his hearing today to take part in a Black History event in Islington North. He is speaking right now, giving a great contribution about international black history figures over the last 300 years!
What an absolute disgrace
@jeremycorbyn
is, going off to help at a homeless shelter on Christmas every year, rather than watching a 10-minute broadcast by one of the world’s wealthiest landladies and corgi owners. Mendacious.
Word of warning to those who have seen statistics saying 87% of British Jews think Corbyn is an antisemite, and 47% would consider emigrating if he became PM... the questions were put to just 0.28% of the Jewish community. In other words, it's bollox!
#JC4PM
His specious claim that antisemitism was the “one acceptable face of racism” in the UK today would have astonished those at the sharpest end among Gypsy, Roma, Traveller communities, Muslim communities, Black communities who continue to face state and institutional racism, 11/12
Just a reminder that Rachel Riley who abuses the Jewish writer,poet, pro-NHS and antifascist activist M Rosen, implying that his supporters are antisemites, is the same Rachel Riley who told an interviewer: “I don’t look like a typical Jew”. What does a “typical Jew” look like?
And Fiona Bruce, who in the months before the election usually interrupted Labour politicians within 30 seconds, gave this racist just as much time as she wanted or needed. Disgusting.
"You got people flooding into this country who cannot speak English ...what kind of country allows that." Quite a shocking diatribe from an audience member from London. Thank god the audience did not applaud her bigotry.
#bbcqt
@jeremycorbyn
Thank you Jeremy - and absolutely reciprocated – from a Jewish constituent who knows well your wholehearted support for every minority community in the borough and your dedication over decades to combating all racism, fascism and injustice!
Early entry for April Fools Day headline. Complete bollox in just 6 words. Myself, and many Jews I know, are campaigning all-out for a Corbyn-led Labour Government that will finally tackle Tory-imposed poverty, homelessness, racism, injustice.
Jeremy Corbyn’s campaign was an extraordinary phenomenon and such a pleasure to be part of. Cross generational, forward-looking, cooperative, devoid of egos, diverse, multicultural and rooted in solidly socialist, anti-racist and internationalist political values. 1/2
This morning I left the Labour Party and cancelled my direct debit. It was not a decision I took lightly. Please read my blog to find out what my tipping point was:
I'm trying hard to understand current Labour Party rules. Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner, Margaret Hodge, Ruth Smeeth are allowed to comment on the EHRC report but the MP for Islington for 37 years, and an LP member for 55, is not . Have I got that right?
#ReinstateJeremyCorbyn
As a Jewish antifascist I am disgusted by the Chief Rabbi’s conflation of fighting antisemitism with total support for an Israeli gov’t that includes self-declared fascists in key positions, who speak and act in genocidal ways.
"Israel is not alone. The Jewish people are not alone. We have marvellous friends."
Today I joined the March Against Antisemitism rally in Manchester and delivered a message of gratitude to all those around the United Kingdom and the world who stand with us, and stand with
Antisemitic abuse against Luciana Berger must be totally condemned but don't libel Wavertree LP members as antisemites for wanting to express a view on their "Labour" MP who constantly undermines Labour's leadership and talks openly of leaving the party.
Mid-‘80s, Baddiel leaving Cambridge with a double 1st, starting to try some comedy. Corbyn, 1st on list speaking out v antisemites past+present, as always. Maybe do a fraction of what Corbyn has done against racism over several decades before offering your half-baked thoughts?
Two days+ on from shocking antisemitic graffiti attacks in Belsize Park/Hampstead and neither Johnson nor Priti Patel have commented. Maybe since there is no longer an election to win, they have lost interest in Jews. Thanks JC and other local Lab. MPs for your instant support.
How terrible that Chanukah started with a message of hope and on this last day we face antisemitic graffiti in London and horrific stabbings at a party in New York. We stand with all our communities facing hate.
We send love and solidarity to Jewish communities around the world.
"I wrote about football and antisemitism" says Daniel Harris. No you didn't. You cobbled together some piss-poor "research", mixed it with lies about that charlatan Luciana Berger, and smeared Liverpool fans as antisemites, for a cheap shot against a genuine anti-racist MP. 1/4
Woke up to radio news saying Board of Deputies wants Labour leadership candidates to sign up to their “10 point plan” to rebuild relations with J community. I’m old fashioned. I think Labour members, not anti-Labour right wingers, should decide our policy!
A Christmas message focusing on rising racism against a range of communities, in a year when leading politicians have ratcheted up rhetoric against refugees and extended that to attacks on multiculturalism itself would have been a welcome alternative. 2/12
as well as many Jews active in challenging all these, and alarmed at rising antisemitic incidents.
Fry has been conspicuous by his absence from campaigning movements against racism in Britain, but that is hardly an excuse. 12/12
There was nothing alternative about locating the horrific events of October 7 as the catalyst to everything that followed, as if life in Gaza under siege, or the West Bank on October 6 was hunky-dory. As if Israel’s Nation State Law of 2018, 4/12
I voted twice for Corbyn in an open contest to lead the Labour Party and speak on behalf of it. I don't recall having the chance to vote for any "Senior Rabbi" to speak "on behalf of the Jewish community". You speak for yourself not for the rest of us.
As Senior Rabbi, on behalf of the British Jewish community, I hold him directly responsible for enabling and colluding in institutional anti-Semitism.
I’m furious because I know the facts.
I'd like a People's Vote on Grenfell, Homelessness, NHS privatisation, Yarls Wood, Austerity, Universal Credit, Zero Hours contracts... it's called a General Election. And maybe one more vote on whether Tom Watson is a shmendrik (idiot) or a mamzer (bastard).
"...an antisemitic party, led by an antisemite...the most powerfully vicious racist party Britain has ever known". Not the British Union of Fascists, NF, BNP, but the Labour Party, says the Jewish Chronicle. Disgusting libel against Corbyn + 540,000 members
Many Labour MPs are unhappy about being told to vote for cuts to winter fuel payments - a decision not made by them but by just 2 Labour members - Starmer+ Reeves. MPs fear losing the whip but if good numbers rebel, Starmer will not want to add to the ranks of independents. 1/7
One year ago today the
#LabourLeaks
report came out which documented the factional deep sabotage of Labour’s chances under Corbyn, coupled with disgusting racism+sexism against LP black left wing MPs. There have been no apologies, no accountability and no justice. Shameful.
Message for
@Keir_Starmer
at Labour Conference 2022. Please don't treat us to more nauseating, self-serving, bad faith comments about how, under your leadership, the party has challenged antisemitism.
It hasn't. 1/9
John Mann known for his racism against Gypsies/Travellers thinks Corbyn's Labour Party is racist so he's quitting as a Labour MP to work for the government led by the ultra-racist Boris Johnson.
A rebel I have always been so proud to work and campaign with for a better world. Solidarity with
@jeremycorbyn
against the haters, the ignoramuses, and the tukhes-lekers (arse-lickers) of the wealthy!
#IStandWithJeremyCorbyn
On 18 November 2020
@Keir_Starmer
removed the whip from Jeremy Corbyn after an NEC panel revoked his suspension. On 19 November, the Chef Whip confirmed it was for 3 months and it would be reviewed. It is now *6* months later. No change, no review. Time to reinstate Jeremy NOW!
Enthusiastic crowd greeted
@jeremycorbyn
at midday today as he emerged from Islington Town Hall after submitting nomination papers to stand as an Independent in Islington North. Followed immediately by mass canvass!
Vote Corbyn Independent!
Fry played safe on those issues, clinging so closely to Establishment narratives. And he did a massive disservice to the anti-racist movement by endorsing a hierarchy of anti-racism which sets victims of racism in competition with each other for empathy and solidarity. 10/12
As would a message that gave a sense of the parallel rises in antisemitism and Islamophobia, here, much of it with reference to, or exploiting the asymmetric “war” taking place in Palestine, and the asymmetric reporting of it. 3/12
"deceitful"? Having known JC for 30+ years I would describe him as one of the most honest, principled and humanitarian people I've ever met - and a true ally against all oppression including antisemitism.
Most concerning is leadership. The leader of the Labour Party, of Her Majesty's Opposition, is a false-messiah. Jeremy Corbyn is deceitful and has brought the Labour Party into extreme disrepute.
Margaret Hodge is threatening to leave the LP if
@jeremycorbyn
has the Labour whip restored, but she herself was implicated in a clear example of the very problem JC identified in his initial statement about the media exaggerating the scale of alleged antisemitism in the LP. 1/5
which enshrined apartheid there had not occurred, or the elevation of self-declared fascists into Israel’s cabinet shortly after Israel’s 2022 election, which gave the green light for a further escalation of settler violence 5/12
In 1939 Stafford Cripps called Nancy Astor MP the "member for Berlin" for her pro-Nazi views. This week Theresa May unveiled a statue to her. The night before May took office she+hubby were Chief Rabbi Mirvis' dinner guests. Would you invite her back now
@chiefrabbi
?
So
@BoardofDeputies
threw its all into keeping anti-racist Corbyn out of No.10 knowing the alternative was Johnson, whose chief advisor employs a eugenicist aide; Braverman, who uses a/s tropes, gets a top job, and a Tory MP speaks alongside Euro far right. Are you feeling proud?
People who trivialise the Holocaust + abuse the memory of the murdered millions to try to score a cheap political point are morally on a par with Holocaust deniers. Jeremy Hunt's comments about Labour &
@jeremycorbyn
are disgusting + disgraceful.
.
@Jeremy_Hunt
: “When I went to Auschwitz I rather complacently said to myself, ‘thank goodness we don’t have to worry about that kind of thing in the UK’ and now I find myself faced with the leader of
@UKLabour
who has opened the door to antisemitism”
I have known
@jeremycorbyn
for more than 30 years as an absolute ally in the fight v antisemitism, bigotry, and oppression of any kind. I can't say that about those inside and outside the LP who continue the cynical, dishonest war against him. Reinstate him now!
#WeSupportCorbyn
Fry could have been bold enough to echo those Israelis who lost immediate family on 7 October in the Hamas attack, but have spoken publicly against their Government’s indiscriminate response driven by revenge and retribution on a civilian population. 9/12
against Palestinian civilians in the Occupied Territories including pogroms, and a series of provocations at the Al Aqsa mosque had not occurred. Fry was just echoing the deliberately myopic right wing perspectives that dominate the mainstream media 6/12
Ex-BNP member Tommy Robinson says he has joined the Tories. Racist Katie Hopkins shouts via twitter at Baroness Warsi “it’s our party now!”. Britain First tells its members to join the Tories. The response from Jewish “leaders”? The praise the Tories for promising action v BDS.
Proud to be one of the signatories to a letter in the Islington Tribune by Jewish Labour members in
@jeremycorbyn
's constituency, showing heartfelt support for and solidarity with him. Some of those who signed it have put in decades of campaigning work for the party.
Right wing Labour MP Siobhan McDonagh says "hard-left" anti-capitalist politics are behind antisemitism. She agreed with R4's Humphreys "to be anti-capitalist you have to be antisemitic". We can see now who stereotypes Jews as capitalists! Disgraceful.
Corbyn’s result in 2017 scared the Tories but terrified the Labour Right. They joined the establishment’s sordid war on Corbyn’s LP, using false accusations of a/s. It was despicable. Had a feeling it would come back+bite them on the tukhes. It has. Starmer and JLM squirming now.
Within days of Jeremy Corbyn being suspended by the Labour Party, 19 Jewish Labour members in his constituency (Islington North) published a detailed statement of support for him in our local newspaper. In that letter, we pointed out that: 1/4
The Jeremy Corbyn I’ve known personally for 35+ years (and as a constituent for 26 of those) is an absolute humanitarian and egalitarian committed 100% to his constituents. I can’t say that for most of the people chasing him with their pitchforks.
#IStandWithJeremyCorbyn
As a Labour Party member and longstanding Jewish anti-racist activist, who worked for the Runnymede Trust, I feel physically sickened by
@rabbisacks
comparison of Corbyn with Powell. It is on a par with the disgusting comments on the CAA petition.
@antisemitism
Are you proud of signatories' comments on your anti-Corbyn petition "I would prefer someone to shoot him" "Let's get the bastard" "jeremy is a cunt" "a dirty Nazi" who "hates the UK and white man" and would "flood the country" with immigrants?
Thread: The Holocaust was a product of fascism, "race" hatred, ultra-nationalism, dehumanisation. Today, when more Jews globally question+challenge Zionism than at any time since 1948 + Israel's government includes self-declared fascists, Fraser's statement is peculiar. 1/7
And he told blatant lies too. I was at the Chakrabarti launch where Ruth Smeeth did NOT leave in tears, and where none of the other Jewish people I was with heard anything antisemitic said.
Is this guy the ultimate Question Time superfan? He's been on at least four times, travelling to Peterborough, Scarborough, Lincoln, and then Sheffield tonight. And he always wears the same white shirt. He should get to go on the panel as a treat.
So we are sharing it here on social media, and urge others to do so. If Labour intend to pursue any case against Corbyn re his alleged views/statements on Jewish concerns, they need to explain why he has such strong support from Jews in his local branch. Here is the letter: 4/4
It would have been an alternative to examine those voices, here in Britain, across generations, among Jews who condemn *all* racism and seek a future of peace, justice and coexistence in Israel, that are challenging those mainsteam narratives. 8/12
and are faithfully put out too by a clique of uncritical bodies that declare themselves as leaders of what is clearly a fracturing and conflicted Jewish community, that includes growing numbers of Jews speaking out against a genocide that we see being enacted. 7/12
I am one of many Jewish members of the LP in Corbyn's constituency, consistent antiracists and antifascists and I know you do not represent or speak for us. We know the "institutional a/s" charge v Labour is rubbish. He is a friend and ally to us.
As Senior Rabbi, on behalf of the British Jewish community, I hold him directly responsible for enabling and colluding in institutional anti-Semitism.
I’m furious because I know the facts.
The unelected
@chiefrabbi
says his intervention tonight in GE19 was made "with a heavy heart". But his behaviour shows his political bias. Mr+Mrs May were his dinner guests the night before she took office. Then there was this:
CR: “I am delighted to congratulate Boris Johnson on becoming the next leader of the Conservative Party & our next PM. May he be blessed with the wisdom to successfully navigate the political uncertainties we face & bring healing & prosperity to our great country.”
Thanks
@billybragg
for being a totally principled anti-racist, a fighter against antisemitism and for Justice for Palestinians. The editors of 3 Jewish newspapers with declining sales don't speak for me or lots of Jews I know! Solidarity! (And up the Hammers)
No tears for Louise Ellman leaving Labour. She has done a disservice to the fight against antisemitism by accusing the most committed anti-racist to lead Labour of being an antisemite. In reality she can't stomach his radical socialist policies and support for Palestinian rights.
The “cost of living” crisis is actually the “cost of demonising Corbyn” crisis. It was clear as day whose interests a Johnson gov’t would serve +how racist and far right friendly his policies would be. All who did that demonising or enabled it should hang their heads in shame.
Chief Rabbi has had nothing to say on Tories hostile environment and Windrush Scandal, nor on formal Tory links with antisemitic gov'ts in Poland and Hungary. Think he's sitting on his moral compass.
#notmychiefrabbibruv
I predicted that attendance would be under 1,000 at the Zionist Fed. "Solidarity with Israel" rally today. A Sky News reporter estimated 150. Wonder why she didn't mention well known attendees like the guy in the middle of this pic: ex-BNP member, EDL leader Tommy Robinson?
Absolutely agree John. Unfortunately Starmer is obsessively jealous of Corbyn and the genuine affection he attracts through his honesty, humanity, commitment and unshakeable principles, which he can’t even match in his dreams,so he won’t apologise.
This was appalling, ill judged & totally counterproductive. Insulting behaviour like this is demeaning. It alienates so many who enthusiastically voted for Jeremy whilst undermining the efforts to unite our movement to tackle the cost of living crisis. It warrants an apology.
I first met
@jeremycorbyn
in the late 1980s through anti-racist and anti-fascist activism and his deeply held principles and commitment to that fight have remained completely consistent. Ignore the puerile haters in the comments.
Yesterday, the Islington Menorah was vandalised in an appalling antisemitic attack.
At short notice last night, we joined one another to rekindle the lights in solidarity.
Racism is not welcome in our community — our diversity will always be a source of pride and strength.
Disgraceful interviewing by
@KirstyWark
on Newsnight just now. Ex-MP Louise Ellman, dumped by constituents, gets all the time on the world. Jenny Manson from Jewish Voice for Labour rudely interrupted every three words.
As a Jewish LP member who has fought antisemitism and all racism for decades, absolutely agree with u
@LenMcCluskey
. Hodge's outburst was a pathetic stunt from someone accused of using BNP language herself when pushing a racist housing policy.
General Secretary of Unite, Len McCluskey gets standing ovation at
#Lab2018
: 'Anyone screaming you are a racist at Jeremy Corbyn has lost every sense of moral proportion'
Under pressure
@antisemitism
have been forced to take down the comments on their slanderous anti-Corbyn petition. They included death threats, incitement to violence and vile anti-immigrant remarks. I recorded some before they were removed.
The cheapest and most dishonest jibe at Jeremy Corbyn from the most fraudulent of our establishment politicians. He’s also obsessively jealous of Corbyn because he will never know what it means to be admired for honesty, human values and principles.
BREAKING: Keir Starmer accuses Tories of "Corbyn-style manifesto"

Do Boris Johnson's openly bigoted statements re Muslims, Africans, women, gays, not bother you? Does Johnson's warmth and admiration for Hungary's antisemitic leader, Orban, or the leading white supremacist, Steve Bannon, not concern you?

@jeremycorbyn
was unjustly suspended by the LP for a measured, honest response to the EHRC Report. Starmer and the msm put the perverse spin on it that Corbyn had said that "antisemitism was exaggerated". He said nothing of the sort. 1/7
I'm an environmentalist and I am very committed to recycling but I am getting more than a bit tired of Jonathan Freedland's recycled anti-Corbyn articles in the Guardian with the same old smears, half-truths and innuendos.
Margaret 91 - 111 Hodge. 111= number of people she reported to LP for antisemitism. 91=number of them who were NOT LP members. She had no issue with Jeremy and a/s 1983-2015. What changed? Her real agenda is not a/s but "Stop Corbyn".
There is something so disturbing and insulting about non-Jewish Labour Party officials expelling an outstanding Jewish socialist and fighter against racism and oppression, for expressing her opinion about how to analyse and tackle antisemitism and how not to. 1/2
Jewish Chronicle has lost half its readers since 2001. It's editor Stephen Pollard, ex-leader writer for racist Daily Express, tells Labour to adopt IHRA on behalf of the Jewish community. Left wing Jewish Labour members say
#BackNECcode
Why am I surprised that the Jewish Chronicle would try to justify Israel’s war on the children of Gaza, and even publish a piece by far right “thinker” Douglas Murray that humanises Nazi exterminators of Jews to tell us Hamas are worse? 1/
Corbyn's comments on the EHRC Report, for which he had the Whip petulantly removed, were welcomed by many Jewish Labour members in Islington North CLP. He is still our MP and still serving his constituents despite the barriers. We need him back in the PLP.
#ReinstateJeremyCorbyn
Proud to have been part of the team working in Peterborough yesterday for Labour's victory over Farage's Far Right, over the MSM over Mike Gapes and what is left of Change UK and other smear merchants who were willling Labour to lose to the racists.
For 5 years Labour was a party of hope, idealism + collective challenge to the gangsters running the country. I'm still a member, fighting for change, but it feels dead. Starmer's latest actions break all the rules he is so keen on and reek of petty jealousy.
#WeSupportCorbyn
Much better to continue living a life full of love, care, humour and mentshlekhkayt (humanity) rather than be filled with the bitterness and hate that seems fill the lives of those piling on against my friend and comrade
@MichaelRosenYes
Brilliant speech by Jeremy Corbyn at the a Council of Europe today after far-right inspired hate-speech by a Hungarian delegate. Challenging those filled with hate to visit the multicultural constituency which he is so proud to represent, and listen to the refugees.
@DurhamMiners
@RachelRileyRR
@DurhamGala
As a Jewish person who was fortunate to attend the Miners Gala (in 2017) and was incredibly moved +uplifted by the whole experience I am ashamed of
@RachelRileyRR
disgraceful and insulting comment. She needs to say sorry to 200,000 people right now.
When Labour's NEC "debated" the motion on restoring the whip to Jeremy Corbyn, not one opponent of the motion had the guts or capacity to put an argument as to why they opposed it. No one spoke against it. They simply voted it down. Cowardly, as well as intellectually bankrupt.
5 years ago today thousands of us heard the news that
@jeremycorbyn
had become Labour leader as we assembled for a “Refugees Welcome”. Corbyn rushed down to speak to that march. No longer Labour’s leader he still speaks up for refugees.
What do you call people who cannot accept diversity in Jewish life but stereotype the Jewish community as having just one view? Some people might call them antisemites. I call them "Tom Watson".
Sickening and gratuitous attempt by David Lammy to give Corbyn a kicking by apologising for nominating him for the leadership ballot. Why apologise for helping someone bring 100s of 1,000s of new members to the LP, win back millions of voters lost by Blair+give them hope?
MP
@DavidLammy

This report acknowledges some truths, but nowhere does it mention that a significant number of local people who campaigned with+for Jeremy were Jewish. The line about people being bussed/tubed in amused me. They kept coming from all over, as volunteers, at their own expense. 1/3
Mark VE Day as an *internationalist* triumph over Nazism, but also mark 8 May 1943 when the Warsaw Ghetto fighters, surrounded in their last bunker, committed mass suicide by ingesting poison to control the manner of their death rather than let the Nazis do so. Fight Fascism!
Rabbi Sacks 2011 "David Cameron is right to say multiculturalism has failed. 2013 "multiculturalism has had its day." 2017 High praise for Douglas Murray's attack on "uncontrolled immigration" +"cultural suicide". How dare he compare Corbyn with Enoch Powell?
So,
@BeckettUnite
who has a strong record of antiracism apologised for his tweet within 30 mins. Leaders of the party that suspended him have not apologised to Black MPs 13 months after vile racism against them by LP officers was exposed in the leaked report. Forde Report now!
What price democracy in the Labour Party? Voting against Corbyn's right to natural justice, and voting to continue expelling socialists for supporting groups that have been retrospectively proscribed.Bad day for democracy, great day for authoritarianism.
#IStandWithJeremyCorbyn
Blimey, from The Times to Jonathan Freedland the establishment are promoting Jess Phillips for Labour leader, whose sisterhood and anti-racist solidarity was amply demonstrated when she told Diane Abbott to "fuck off".
Margaret Hodge told JLM conf today that agreeing to IHRA in full will not be enough + she will fight JC until he is no longer leader. One more reason for Labour to defend their code, apart from the fact that only 6/31 IHRA countries have fully endorsed it.
So last Labour NEC elections 293,000 members voted with 214 votes declared invalid. This time round 135,000 voters but more than 6,000 votes declared invalid. What the actual fuck?
Observer leads with
