If you led a healthcare company, would you: 1️⃣ As a PBM CEO, pass all rebates to employers, 2️⃣ As a drug maker CEO, reward reps for knowledge & service, not sales, or 3️⃣ Invest in a malaria drug to help millions, despite no profit? Andrew Witty did all three at UnitedHealth & GSK. Not directly profitable, but 1 & 2 might ease regulatory pressure. 3 can attract & inspire talent.

Less is often more, according to Shelley Hwang, MD, MBA, of @DukeU. In her latest study in @JAMA_current, she and her coauthors demonstrated that active monitoring may offer a safe, less invasive approach for managing low-risk ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Watch the video: Read the article:

The GLP-1 miracle drugs provide large cost offsets for Body Mass Index (BMI) > 40 (for example, 5'6" and 250 lbs). For BMI = 30, average cost offsets are negligible. Cost-effectiveness depends on the psychic value of being slim & health benefits beyond weight loss. My take on @cawley_john’s great talk @DukeU!

A study on digital expert advice by @KateBundorf, @MariaAPolyakova, and @mtaiseale revealed surprising insights relevant to AI: 1. The tool increased, rather than saved, time. 2. High-skill users benefited more because low-skill users didn't use it. This highlights how AI's impact depends on selection. It could help low-skill users more, but only if they engage with it. #MatthewEffect

I'm struggling to reconcile these: • @TheLancet reports a 167% rise in heat-related deaths among 65+ since the 1990s. • @IHME_UW reports that heat and cold exposure are responsible for .1% of deaths and this has *fallen* since the 1990s. Why do they differ? • Is the rise in @TheLancet due to an increase in seniors? • Are deaths from heat offset by lives saved from avoiding cold? • Are other problems in the world growing faster? • Other?
