Recruits want to hear from you consistently—every 6 to 9 days. It’s not just frequency, though. Share why your program is the best fit and how they’ll thrive with you. Are your messages consistent and compelling?

Pressure isn't bad, just don’t overdo it. Recruits need a gentle nudge to keep moving forward. Guide them with clear next steps. They’re not mind-readers. If you want a visit or paperwork in, say so. Recruit smarter by being direct, not pushy.

You preach consistency to your team—why not apply it to recruiting? A system for regular communication with recruits, clear timelines, and parent outreach transforms "The Grind" into results. What’s your system?

"Some weeks, you’re landing commitments from recruits left and right. Other weeks? Not so much. Even in a “slow” week, there’s always something to celebrate." More here from @mandygreencps:

What should you do when a prospect, late in the process, starts to not communicate as much? @coachtiers shared some great advice in his article earlier this week:

Consistency is a cornerstone of coaching—but how often do we bring that same energy to recruiting? Many coaches struggle to maintain a steady message, and it shows. Recruits notice when communication is sporadic, and they’ll lean toward programs that feel more stable and intentional. One of the most effective habits I’ve seen from successful coaches is blocking time weekly for recruiting. It doesn’t need to be fancy—just carve out a few hours every week to organize your messages, stay on top of timelines, and review your targets. Speaking of timelines, are you helping your recruits set clear decision-making deadlines? Too often, we leave this up in the air, creating confusion for both sides. Agreeing on a timeline early keeps everyone focused and prevents last-minute chaos. And don’t forget the parents. Programs that connect with parents early in the process stand out. A simple plan to communicate with them—early and consistently—shows you’re serious about their athlete’s success. Parents notice that, and they’ll tell their kids about it. Recruiting is tough, but a little structure goes a long way. Make it a habit to reach out to recruits every 6–9 days with compelling reasons to choose your program. You’ll build trust, stay top of mind, and increase your chances of landing the athletes you need. It’s not flashy, but it works. A consistent recruiting system can turn “The Grind” into results. What’s one habit you can commit to this week to improve your recruiting process?

Last fall, we surveyed hundreds of freshman student-athletes to ask them a variety of questions around their college decision. In our latest podcast, @recruitwithdan and I discuss what these athletes told us was the biggest factor in their decision:

Struggling with recruits going silent? It’s not always disinterest—it’s confusion. Ask questions about *how* they’re making their decisions, not just *what* they want. "What part of the process are you dreading?" gets you deeper insights than "What’s your dream school?" Shift the focus.

The secret sauce to standing out? Connect with parents early and often. A simple plan to communicate with them shows you care—and they’ll notice. It’s not just about recruiting the athlete; it’s about recruiting the family.
