It's worth repeating: the @NWS costs each American taxpayer just $4/yr, but creates over $100,000,000,000 in value to the economy. And this ROI has been _increasing_ over time. See the linked report coordinated and supported by the @AMSPolicy program.

@zeddotdev Is there a mailing list or newsletter I could subscribe to for this event? Can't attend tomorrow but would be excited to stop by for future iterations.

I've been a Technical / Project Lead and Manager across multiple orgs, so I'm familiar with "prioritization." We can - and should - have conversations about where we prioritize federal spending, investment, and functions. But not everything you simply disagree with is WFA.

@stormchasevideo @NWS @AMSPolicy @DOGE And what happens if the cuts compromise critical services? What happens if infrastructure we rely on degrades or breaks and it can't easily be fixed due to loss of function or talent? Why should the rest of us bear the consequences of this experiment? Do it yourself first.

@stormchasevideo @NWS @AMSPolicy @DOGE I trust you'll factor in the extensive costs of private services to replace all of those public services you trust so much? But please - if you would like to live in Galt's Gulch, then you're more than welcome to do so.

@MichaelHar21269 @NWS @AMSPolicy I can't think of any easier WFA to tamp down than $10,000 toilet seats at the Pentagon. So again - why wouldn't you start at the agency that the GAO says already has upwards of $100B/yr of known WFA on its books? ( It's a tad sus...

@MichaelHar21269 @NWS @AMSPolicy We're in agreement - "why not DoD?" "Why not Medicaid?" There's already substantial, documented evidence of WFA at scale in these organizations. Some of it has been fixed; most hasn't. That WFA will dwarf anything found in the spare change that is NOAA/USAID's budget. So... why?

@MichaelHar21269 @NWS @AMSPolicy If "audit" means "read through the budget / payments line-by-line" - all static assets that can't be modified - why does it matter if people know in advance? Doesn't everyone expect that DOGE is coming at this point anyways? What difference does it make? This is really shallow.

@MichaelHar21269 @NWS @AMSPolicy I very much did not say that. Let me be more explicit: If this was about "getting rid of WFA", you'd expect to start at the agencies that have extensively been documented to have significant WFA. NOAA is not one of those agencies. Calls into question what's really going on here.

@MichaelHar21269 @NWS @AMSPolicy The GAO doesn't point to NOA as where the most WFA is happening. DOGE has uncovered rounding errors - and they're just citing programs they disagree with, not sources of fraud. There's _plenty_ of fraud in non-discretionary funding they should be targeting. Why aren't they?

@stormchasevideo @NWS @AMSPolicy I agree - I care deeply about the total amount of wasted government spending. However, I would target the largest and most oft cited portions of the budget to recover this waste (in Defense and entitlements) as my first places to audit. Everything else is a rounding error.

@MichaelHar21269 @NWS @AMSPolicy Why do you presume there is so much waste or fraud? The GAO has consistently and frequently reviewed this issue (e.g. , as do OIGs across the federal government. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
