We're actually on our way to the most extreme back to basics and rigor movement we've ever seen. It's like a "Johnny is too woke he can't even tie his shoes" type of movement, rooted in wild disinformation that melts religion & pseudoscience into legislation.

The vocab for AI is so nebulous. Every week a new AI platform "outperforms" another and what the fuck does that even mean. It spits out crap faster than another? It steals people's intellectual property faster than another? It ruins the planet faster than another?

This year I'll be taking my taxes to silicon valley for an audit. Software engineers are apparently the best accountants ever. Musk rolls up to a Treasury department audit with two van loads of software engineers w expertise in AI.

This is just another example of the no accountability for anything at all from the people who lead this country.
JD Vance is melting down because people are pointing out that he's standing up for a guy who posted "normalize Indian hate" & wants him to go back to working for the Treasury Department rifling through our data for Elon Musk and DOGE. I feel sorry for his kids. They didn't have a choice in having him for a dad. Zero sympathy for his wife who chose him.

The NIH announced it will slash billions of dollars of support to universities and research centers. This is one of the biggest attacks on science we have ever seen. It could dismantle the biomedical research system, shut down clinical trials, and halt development of treatments.

The problem is many colleges are broke and they're looking for any revenue they can get. More federal funding cuts are coming and they will lead more college to make bad decisions about AI for the money.
The Cal State system, where I teach, just announced a murky but far-ranging & evidently unprecedented public-private initiative to, per the Chancellor, “establish the CSU as the nation’s first and largest AI-powered public university system[.]” This is very concerning imo,
