The #health benefits of #coffee โค๏ธโ๏ธ However due to #climatechange which causes #draughts and #floods the coffee price has reached a 50 year high ๐๐ฒ
A recent study showed that morning coffee drinkers had a 12% lower risk of all-cause mortality and a 31% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease over a 10-year period. This benefit was specific to morning coffee drinkers, as no similar protective effects were observed when coffee was consumed in the afternoon or evening. Moderate coffee consumption stood out as being most beneficial for reducing all-cause mortality among morning drinkers: - 1โ2 cups per day was associated with a 16% lower risk - 2โ3 cups per day was associated with a 28% lower risk - 3+ cups per day was associated with a 21% lower risk There were no additional benefits associated with "all-day" coffee drinking, which was defined as drinking coffee in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Even though morning intake was uniquely protective, higher coffee consumptionโregardless of timingโwas linked to a 14โ19% lower all-cause mortality risk and an even greater 28โ40% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. While this study can't prove causation, there appears to be a health benefit associated with enjoying this beverage early in the day that might relate to the unique polyphenols, motivation to exercise, better sleep, or resetting circadian rhythms. Spill the tea โ๏ธ #tea drinking might not always be that healthy if you use tea bags study shows.
Teabags release billions of microplastics into our tea beverages. A recent study found that commercially available teabags made from nylon, polypropylene, and cellulose release billions of micro- and nano-plastics into a single cup of tea. โข Polypropylene teabags released 1.20 billion particles/mL โข Cellulose teabags released ~135 million particles/mL โข Nylon teabags released 8 million particles/mL In lab experiments, researchers exposed human intestinal cells to microplastic particles and found that different types of plastic interacted with different cell types. Polypropylene particles were absorbed by mucus-producing cells, while cellulose particles were absorbed by two types of mucus-producing cells. Nylon particles, however, were taken up by cells that help maintain the gut's protective barrier but donโt produce mucus. These findings suggest that different types of plastics interact uniquely with gut cells, potentially affecting gut health in distinct ways. While the long-term effects of micro- and nanoplastic exposure remain unclear, itโs evident that these particles are entering our bodies through multiple sources. You might consider switching to loose-leaf tea to reduce exposure if you're a tea drinker. Study: PMID: 39542373
