Former Prime Minister Ehud Barak calls for an end to the war, return of all hostages - and for a two state solution. Thousands cheering. This disaster can be turned into change and a better future for Israelis and Palestinians. We need the international community to help us.

2/2 My honest take is that yet again clueless, angry and hateful chanting continue to help no one and serve to distract everyone. It’s not raising awareness/educating. It’s making the debate about a festival in the UK. Inadvertently silencing news from the region. Well done.

1/2 Criticise the IDF all you like. You should. Take action. Write to your MP. Raise awareness. Fundraise for NGOs trying to deliver aid. Support hostage families. Support peace & human rights NGOs. Or - chant away as you dance and make it all about you. Do you feel better now?.
Good that @glastonbury were quick to distance themselves from yesterday’s violent chants. Chants of “death to the IDF” serve to further division & hatred. They’re an ugly distraction, which does nothing to aid the goal of ending the war or occupation.

Not an easy read, nor an easy reality to confront. But an important read. Are all Israeli soldiers purposely killing civilians? Of course not. As we’ve learnt time & time again, it only takes a minority to create a shift in behavioural norms. In the West Bank, in Gaza.

I’m going to add a disclaimer: of course there is also opposition from Palestinian members of Knesset, I was referring to Jewish MKs. Unfortunately, Palestinian/Arab Israeli MKs are rarely listened to and very often silenced. Thanks @MauricioLapchik for this important reminder.

The others, unfortunately, are too busy trying to disprove the claims of the far-right against them. Too often choosing silence in order to placate the people who will call them traitors regardless. Extremists are taking over, and silence is complicity.
Yesterday settlers stormed the village of Kafer Malk, burning property & threatening residents. Ten Palestinians were injured. The IDF arrived & opened fire. 3 Palestinians were killed. Settler violence is a tactic to drive Palestinians away from their land - and it’s working.

With regards to the recent settler violence in the West Bank - where settlers injured Palestinians, destroyed property and the IDF shot 3 Palestinians dead - only one of the opposition leaders has condemned it. @YairGolan1 is imperfect. But he is the only opposition leader.

We find ourselves in a place where those who have suffered the most are also the ones doing the most to end this war. Huge respect to Sharon, Yocheved and Eli for everything they’ve doing. But I’m also sorry that you’ve been landed with this role.
1/2 I thank the Foreign Secretary for meeting me & my mother @Yocheved_Lifshi, for listening to her story & that of our Kibbutz, Nir Oz. We asked that the UK government work with the international community to end the war in Gaza & return all hostages immediately.

We can. Whether Netanyahu will choose to is a political decision as it will bring down his government and lead to an election. Once the polling is right, the war will end. Who knows how many Palestinians and Israelis (especially hostages) will die waiting.
So can we end the war in Gaza now with a hostage deal?.

כל מילה. התקשורת הישראלית נכשלה לחלוטין. מתוך פחד להיתפס כ״שמאלנים״ התקשורת שכחה שהתפקיד שלה היא לשאול שאלות, לאתגר, להביע ביקורת. לא להדהד מסרי אחדות מזויפים בזמן שערוץ 14 קוראים לנו בוגדים. במקום לפחד ולנסות לרצות את הימין תיקחו אחריות ותעשו את העבודה שלכם. 1/2.
אני כל כך שונאת לעשות את זה אבל אין ברירה: בין אופוזיציה של משקיפים מודאגים מהאו"ם לתקשורת שנחשפה בעשרת הימים האחרונים במערומיה, הציבור מקבל חבורת עבדים נרצעים של השלטון. החל ממתקפת החיוכים והחגיגות באולפן, הדאחקות המטומטמות על המגישה האיראנית, הברברת הבלתי פוסקת של גורמים שאין.

2/2 The idea that you have to choose who you feel sorry, while you’re too busy checking who has condemned what - is insincere & dehumanising. This is ten minutes from my home. Anyone mocking or belittling civilian suffering - be it in Gaza or Israel - is on the wrong side.

1/2 Too many are playing an ugly game of condemnations, comparisons & faux sympathy, explaining away civilian suffering based on flags. You can advocate for people of Gaza & their suffering, support hostage families, express sorrow for civilian casualties in Israel and yes, Iran.
