There is no place for blasphemy laws in a secular country. Introducing blasphemy laws through the back door is an abuse of statute.
Only just seen this. The judge in the Manchester Quran burning case has incorporated de facto Islamic blasphemy law into actual English common law via her summing-up remarks. "The Quran is a sacred book to Muslims and treating it as you did is going to cause extreme distress. This is a tolerant country but we just do not tolerate this behaviour." Wow. As others have noted, the defendant has also had all his personal details stuck on social media by the police.
