No matter your political views, the abuse, sexism, and vitriol Jacinda Ardern has had to endure has been beyond hideous. I truly hope she enjoys no longer having to put up with that.
I haven't been this disappointed in America for possibly electing a sexual harasser since the last time they did EXACTLY THE SAME THING.

My cousin told me earlier in the week she probably wasn't going to get the vaccine as she had concerns about the push to get it etc. We had a chat, tried to explain why I got it without being pushy. She just messaged to say she'd had her first jab!
I'm no HR expert, but if I was trying to prove I was a good boss and had not bullied staff, I probably wouldn't be posting serious allegations about said staff on social media.
If you think what happened to Sarah Everard doesn't matter here in New Zealand, pretty much every woman I've spoken to in the past couple of days has brought it up. We're angry.
🚨personal news klaxon🚨I’ve known since I was at journo school that I wanted to be an editor someday. Nine years later, getting to do that at the site of my first job is a special full circle moment. I’m starting as the editor of the Ashburton Guardian next month.
Shoutout to the strange guy in his 40s/50s at the beach who wouldn’t stop staring at me, followed me down the esplanade, and when I politely said no when he asked me to get coffee, called me a slut. I was *literally* just standing there.
Ricky Gervais complaining about not being able to make fun of certain things any more and then blocking everyone who says something critical of him is funnier than anything in his Netflix special

Michael Woodhouse three days ago: “This is unconscionable and unacceptable that those suffering from the incredibly dangerous virus now have to suffer further with their private details being leaked.”
‘Person turns 100’ stories are the best because they either advocate prayer and clean living, or they’re the foulest mouthed thrice divorced alcoholics you’ve ever met
I had a go at Wordle and it turns out you can enjoy the fun lil game by yourself! I thought it must force you to share your results, but it’s a choice! You have the power! Something to think about.
Some personal news: really thrilled to share with everyone that I have decided to give up. Grateful for this opportunity and excited about what's to come 🙌
Job news: Thrilled/terrified to announce as of Jan 10 I'll be taking on a new investigative role as Southern Issues reporter at the Otago Daily Times. Hopefully this new role will provide even more in-depth reporting on the issues that affect those in the South.
Alert: sincere tweet incoming. I’m quite blow away by how the vast majority of Kiwis just took a life changing burden of a five week lockdown to combat a pandemic in their stride. Stay in your bubble? Yeah nah, sweet as.
One of my best friends from high school shared a GB News clip hating on the NZ media/Ardern and it’s filled with so much disinformation that I had to comment on the post. Imagine I’ll be blocked shortly. Fuck this pandemic and everyone capitalising on the fear and uncertainty
Little life update: Really excited to be joining the NZ Broadcasting School at Ara as its first-year journalism tutor in August. Sad to be leaving the Guardian, but stoked about the new challenge.
Shout out to all the local government politicians potentially having their last day in office today, by choice or not. It's not an easy thing to put your hand up to serve your community.
Kia ora whanau. I’ve been on a mission to read 100 books this year, I’m currently at 73. So I thought I’d share some of my favourites, in case anyone is looking for some lockdown reading inspiration. Feel free to share your faves as well (I’m always after new reading material!)
I love Kiwis because we will absolutely rip the shit out of places like New Plymouth, but Jimmy Carr implies it’s a bit boring and we lose our damn minds.
So just checking: they don't want media amongst the protest, but they also don't want them standing at a safe vantage point, they don't want media coverage but they complain about the media not covering things.
Right.
Know what’s frustrating? Seeing organisations that told reporters not to bother with local council stories because nobody reads them online, now sing the praises of the new local democracy fund 🙄
