A quick application :
Following this abstraction, you only think about the direction of the 3 axes (planes of the cube) and temporarily (mindfully) eliminate difficult abstractions like "visualize in 3D", "drop shadow", "decay and bounce of light" - I'll save those for later.

Cool method to play with Light & Color:
1. Begin with the main colors
2. Add the Light color (eg, shotgun blast)
3. Add the shadow color (considering the ambient)
4. "Scrap" the shadow (using a mask), modelling the form and exposing the local colors already lit by the light

This is how I sketch poses WHEN I wake up on a bad drawing day.
Two things I want you to notice:
1. The circular, always on paper, loose movement.
2. How I try to move the parts (arms, legs, torso) as if it were a 3D mannequin.

1. Enable Border Effect in Layer Property
2. Set outline color to black, select a different color as primary (yellow, in this example)
3. Mask/Flat your Shapes and the countourn is automatically added.
