Probably not first XI’s,as seen in Cardiff and Swansea U21’s in the Nathaniel MG Cup, but if there’s still a genuine desire to try and benefit the domestic game, there are still ways the pro clubs can go about it. But trying to raise the UEFA coefficient won’t be one of them.

@NathanFlipEvans Merthyr will continue selling themselves as the only Welsh non-league club in England, and enjoy the benefits that come from that. I’d imagine it will always be up for debate by others though until any such time that Merthyr are undisputedly playing at a level well above CP.

@MikeGilbert311 For years I’ve thought that Dave Meltzer’s lack of interest (or even sources?) in TNA really does shine through at times when he’s asked to talk about it, showing how little he keeps up. He’s perfectly entitled to his tastes, but TNA is far from being his specialist subject.

@deijos1 Its certainly unique isn’t it? Not many national leagues that carry with them such a handicap.

On balance Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham and Newport football clubs benefit from playing in England, but the FAW/other clubs/grass roots don’t benefit from any trickle down effect that’s part and parcel of success in other European nations. So what next?
