Someone with a conviction in bitcoin has likely formed that by studying "money" to a deeper level than you suspect. Ask questions, be curious. The key is to stay humble.

@attorneysanders @matt_utxo Sorry I don't follow. The index is created by someone different to the fund provider. If it's a market cap weighted index, eg Russell 1000, the fund providers, eg BlackRock $IWB or Vanguard $VONE, will need to match those weightings in order to correctly track the index.

@attorneysanders @matt_utxo Not necessarily. 99% of funds are passive and track an index like the Russell 1000 or MCSI's ACWI. They are forced to choose the correct weight so as to accurately track the index which they are benchmarked against.

I can find 3.3M shares of $MSTR across 34 of BlackRock's 1,104 ETFs. Nearly all these are index trackers. That accounts for 29% of the 11.3M shares they declare they own.

Wrong. It decreased, not increased. Here's some context: In 2024Q4 BlackRock's 5.0% share of $MSTR actually decreased -0.2% from the previous quarter. The lowest level in 5 years. Also, these shares are held in passive index funds.
