@OrangePilledPod @SmithyG You might be able to get a chunk out into a SIPP with this approach.
@alexglasse Nice tip on doing opt-out / opt-in on a current workplace pension to allow the transfer out to a SIPP. I hadn't thought of that.

@crptAtlas Nonsense. It's not secret, it is a public filing. Also, it's their passive index trackers.
Wrong. It decreased, not increased. Here's some context: In 2024Q4 BlackRock's 5.0% share of $MSTR actually decreased -0.2% from the previous quarter. The lowest level in 5 years. Also, these shares are held in passive index funds.

@attorneysanders @matt_utxo Sorry I don't follow. The index is created by someone different to the fund provider. If it's a market cap weighted index, eg Russell 1000, the fund providers, eg BlackRock $IWB or Vanguard $VONE, will need to match those weightings in order to correctly track the index.

@X111LVX @matt_utxo Those numbers look off. What's the date? As of the 31-Dec-2024 they held 11.3M which is 5.0%.

@attorneysanders @matt_utxo Not necessarily. 99% of funds are passive and track an index like the Russell 1000 or MCSI's ACWI. They are forced to choose the correct weight so as to accurately track the index which they are benchmarked against.

@matt_utxo @ToxicBTC21M In this case, for $MSTR it's 99% passive indexed. See the list I composed.

@matt_utxo Yup. Here's a list for you
I can find 3.3M shares of $MSTR across 34 of BlackRock's 1,104 ETFs. Nearly all these are index trackers. That accounts for 29% of the 11.3M shares they declare they own.

@matt_utxo Absolutely. I decided to run the numbers, it's at a 5 year low.

@BritishHodl @saylor It was 16% ownership when $MSTR were in the S&P Small cap 600.

BlackRock (with $11.6 Trillion in AUM) has announced an increased stake in @saylor's Strategy (MSTR) to 5%.
