It's not often that we as #pathology trainees get to review the anatomy of the retina. If you've ever grossed an eyeball, it's not uncommon for the retina to become "detached" during examination and tissue procurement. So, how many layers can you "see" below (lol) and name? ποΈπ¬

Perineural invasion (PNI) is common in head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). It is associated with a worse prognosis and increased likelihood of metastasis (e.g., via neural spread). PMID: 29443582 So, look closely for it underneath the microscope. #PathX #pathology
