@NIH The problem with this infographic is that not all institutions have an endowment. MGH indirect rate is 68%- no endowment. Hospital based research in a hospital that is still recovering from COVID financial fallout and the government NOT actually funding Medicare/ Medicaid.

I guess I can't pay MGH rent anymore. Current indirects are 68%, and the hospital still helps fund research costs. Is this the end of hospital-based research? MGH does not have an endowment!

I’m glad politicians are educating me that most research is funded by philanthropy. I have 0 phil $$! Why? I study severe TBI in infants- 80% of which is due to abuse. Childhood cancer is sad but a fraction of AHT. It’s rare fundraise for abuse victims who can’t speak.

@Andrew_Akbashev The problem is that the mentors then compete for funds with their mentees - if they are a good mentor. I wonder if that’s why some are not really mentored.

My grant is slated to be reviewed by NIH Feb 20. The meeting has not yet been cancelled. The aim is to provide evidence based guidelines on how to treat infants with seizures in the ICU. My research won’t ever make money in corporate America. Pediatrics NEVER makes $$. @RFK_JR_
