My friend Martin Ratcliffe recently shared his photo montage of the 2023 annular solar eclipse over Bryce Canyon, Utah. I may be biased, but I think it's spectacular (and it got selected for an astronomy picture of the day).

This is one of the ways that our galaxy recycles & renews itself. Carbon-rich dust from these two old stars, called Wolf-Rayet 140, sprays out into interstellar space, where it will eventually become part of the next generation of stars and planets.

The story of the "little red dot" galaxies shows how much we still have to learn about the universe. It's also a good case study in not falling for clickbait stories about how some new discovery has "broken" science. Stay curious & keep learning.

For context: These new images from JWST are just small snapshots of the vast network of space clouds & interstellar flows coursing through our galaxy.

@NOCwYt @JillPhys1905 @NASAViz That's a completely different question. Are you asking if I believe in the objective reality of the world (rocks, trees, people, etc)? Yes, I do. But that is an empirical observation, not a logical proof.

@SquigglyVolcano @Astro_Jonny I was wondering about that narrow risk corridor -- thanks for the additional info!

@Astro_Jonny Ah, thanks! That potential impact corridor (assuming it sticks) passes over a lot of population.

@Astro_Jonny For an object of that size, how close would it have to be to a populated region to pose a risk? I expect a mid-Pacific impact would be harmless, for instance.

@JillPhys1905 @NOCwYt @NASAViz Sorry, I didn't mean to "well actually" you! I was trying to clarify to the OP that his concept of "proof" does not make any sense.

Superman fans take note: K2-22b is a disintegrating planet circling a distant red star. I wonder if one visionary scientist there tried to warn of impending doom.

@JillPhys1905 @NOCwYt @NASAViz It helps to be rigorous about terms. You cannot logically "prove" something is a myth; that's an impossibility. But if an idea cannot be tested or falsified, then it is not a scientific hypothesis. You can call it what you want (faith, myth, etc), but you should be honest.

The Apollo flight path to the Moon was a lot faster and more energy-intensive than what Firefly is doing. It had to be, because Apollo was transporting fragile human cargo.
