Personally, I see psychiatry as a tool and inherently neutral. Used wisely it can do good. Used carelessly, bluntly, or cruelly it does tremendous harm. Sadly I don't think people are trained and supported to use it well most of the time.
My problem with anti-psychiatry is what I see as a consistent failure to show that the arguments made are demonstrably applicable to all of psychiatry and not just BAD psychiatry.
