The first Christmas party in Northants for children with @CoeliacDisease The children loved meeting others with the same condition and especially loved the freedom of eating anything they wanted on the gluten free buffet #coeliac #glutenfree #nhft

#Nutritional deficiencies, especially Iron, B12, Folate, B12, B6, Calcium and Vitamin D are common in undiagnosed coeliac disease. Up to 50% people with undiagnosed coeliac disease have anaemia. Remember to screen your patients for #coeliac disease #coeliac #nhftdietetics

NICE guidelines recommend people with #autoimmune #thyroid disease should be screened for #coeliac disease at diagnosis. If you have been diagnosed with #hashimotos thyroiditis or #graves disease, then ask your GP for a coeliac test. #coeliacawareness #autoimmune #nhftdietetics

The symptoms of #irritablebowel can be very similar to undiagnosed coeliac disease. #NICE guidelines recommend screening #ibs patients for #coeliacdisease. 30% of coeliac patients are misdiagnosed with IBS prior to diagnosis. Gluten must be consumed for 6 wks before testing #nhft

Always advise a patient that they need to be investigated for coeliac disease before advising anyone to ‘just try avoiding gluten’ It’s very difficult to encourage someone to rechallenge #gluten back in to the diet once symptoms have improved. #coeliac #nhftdietetics #gluten

To diagnose #coeliac disease gluten needs to be consumed in at least one meal a day for 6 weeks prior to a blood test. If TtG is > 10 x normal range, the patient is aged < 55 years, with no concerns of another diagnosis, then a biopsy may not be needed #CoeliacAwarenessWeek

It’s @Coeliac_UK awareness month. 1 in 100 people have coeliac disease, only 36% are diagnosed. Let’s improve awareness of the various possible presentations of undiagnosed coeliac disease and improve diagnosis rates #coeliac #coeliacdisease #glutenfree #nhft #nhs

@glutenfreegez So annoying! I had this on Mother’s Day. They said the chef hadn’t had time to make the usual gluten free option I order so could only offer a plate of potato and veg. No discount to the Sunday lunch either! 😡

@jamie_wallis @DrNeenaJha @wesstreeting If I visit my GP surgery then I want to see a GP. No one is more qualified. However, dietitians undertake a 4 year degree which includes clinical medicine, biochemistry and pharmacology. In specialist roles dietitians expertise can be helpful in saving GP and consultant time.
