1/ The new rusty #kaspa node includes several improvements over the old golang node. But, as a node operator does it make sense to switch to the new node when you already have one running stable? Yes. Let me convince you with 3 operational reasons why you should be interested.

The reason #Kaspa hard forks make the system insecure in the long term is not only because individuals with sufficient power can enforce a negative change, but also because a single error could potentially devastate the system.

2/ Reason 1: The rust $kas node uses significantly less CPU and RAM. Sample CPU load avg on the new node looks like (0.05 0.04 0.00) while on the old node it’d be (1.54 1.53 1.40). You use less resources without losing functionality (in fact, you gain more) with the new node.

4/ Reason 3: Related to reason 2, because the pruning is less efficient in the go node, the block template doesn’t get updated when it is pruning. This means at this time, your miners may be mining red blocks (which aren’t rewarded). Rust $kas node fixes this.
1

3/ Reason 2: The rust $kas node uses near constant storage. While storage use still grows over time that growth rate is significantly less per day (mb/day in rust node, gb/day in go node) because pruning is more efficient. You worry less about datadir usage.

@P3b7_ What if it scalability can be solved on L1 with PoW though? That’d be great

Got docker? Running your own $kas node is as simple as downloading the YAML then running “docker-compose up -d”

I've created for all the docker containers we have for #Kaspa If you would like to integrate #Kaspa into your system, you can just download a ready-to-go docker-compose file and run it.

For anyone curious about why $kas does data pruning and why it’s sufficient, check out the workshop video at - it is explained clearly by @DesheShai what issue data pruning solves. Maybe you can learn something new!

@KaspaFacts Careful - A regular compounding transaction does remove kaspa from an address in the form of fees. What @MichaelSuttonIL mentions in the thread requires the new UTXO to have a higher amount than the one that was just spent. The utxos aren’t pruned in this process. They’re spent.

@coinathlete @MichaelSuttonIL @6M_Nick @Dreamcatcher69_ @koonviict @KaspaCurrency @DesheShai @hashdag @Kaspa_HypeMan @BubblegumLtng Mainnet mining over rust node has been going on since December 2023. With hashrate over rust nodes growing as miners and pools volunteer to try it out with their software. Right now about 3-5% of $kas mainnet hashrate is on rust. It’s NOT a hard fork to switch to the rust node.

@BubblegumLtng @mountain97man @btcspacerider @MichaelSuttonIL @HocusLocusT I haven’t checked the exact figure yet since that last update. However, when I said that it was only one of the known large pools that was on rust. Since then there has been another large pool that has joined and is using the rust node for their pool.

But with KIP9 the fee to pay is max(compute_mass, storage_mass). Compute mass is still the same as before. The discount here I guess is related to mass_per_tx_byte being 1 whereas mass_per_sigop is 1000. Reference:

@DesheShai And, a competent group of people should be able to scrutinize those changes very heavily, but be open to them if indeed it objectively improves the network - surpassing any consequences.
