Game Day…Lazy & Overlooked details cost you a game…Don’t overlook these details: 1) Pregame warmup ball security…Player trying to be cool forgets everything about securing the ball and his carelessness carries over into the game…He fumbles… u lose…It’s your fault if you don’t fix it in the pregame warmup…Coaches sometimes forget that coaching never stops!! 2) Pregame warmup receiver catches ball but doesn’t look the ball into the hands and the tuck…Coach doesn’t correct or even notice…Third and 8 receiver drops ball…u lose game…Not his fault… your fault for not coaching pregame 3) OL loses leverage in warmup reps versus defense and doesn’t finish block…Fourth and 1 OL loses leverage and RB is stopped short… u lose game…Not his fault… your fault for not coaching everything 4) RB in pregame warmup doesn’t finish a run…U let it slide because you think it’s not an issue…4th and 4 and RB doesn’t finish run and is stopped a yard short…U lose 5) QB is throwing Pat n Go in pregame and his feet are “Lazy” u don’t fix it? He misses an easy completion to win the game with lazy feet… your fault Bottom line…Coaches get lazy and stop coaching in pre-game… u lose…Don’t blame players…look in the mirror … you are the problem…Coach every play, every rep, accept nothing less than the best rep

Crucial championship reminders for 2 minute drill. 1) Runs and RPOs still in arsenal 2) Screens ( but “dirt it” if sniffed out by RAT 3) Pocket moves 4) Clocking it is ok in gun 5) Line up all receivers to clock it on LOS either side 6) Don’t clock on 4th!! 7) Don’t sub unless clock is stopped 7) Execute with no fear but with professional sense of urgency 8) 2 point play should be decided during the week of practice…However if kicking ass in the run game during this game…RUN IT 9) Never panic 10) Have desperation play ready before final seconds…Run laterals with 25 seconds instead of last play 11) Expect the 2 minute attack to work because you’ve practiced it repeatedly every week and simply execute it…your players will be confident 12) OL can’t hold….QB can’t take a sack 13) Install perfection with perfect practice

Legendary coaches that are halfway through their season take a look at themselves and their program and ask: 1)Am I the best version of myself 2) Am I leading by example 3) Would I want to play for me 4) Who needs compliments regardless 5) Life’s Hard…Compete and Teach 6)Finish

Playoffs coming…Assistants and Head Coach help OC: 1) WR coach…give kill shots immediately when your 100% certain 2) RB coach…when u notice mismatch in matchups and especially when u see RB is being ignored in his route 3) OL constantly remind him tempo, cadence change up, and screens and short yardage kill shot 4) Head coach…”you’ve got 4 downs” and Do This Now!! Don’t criticize after the call, step in before and overrule if u feel strongly… otherwise you’re just a fan 5) Quiet by all when he needs it 6) With confidence tell him “ run this play now and if it doesn’t work fire me! Thats the confidence u need to follow advice in critical situations…Because if it doesn’t work, he’s getting fired 7) Advise with confidence before the play… advice after the call is simply being a “FAN” 8) Hindsight is easy… say it early

Game Day Playcalling Reminders: 1) Bad Team…Longer opening script 2) Great team…short 6-10 play opening script 3) Repeat good plays until they stop them 4) Find and or create the one on one matchup that will get u a critical first down( RB on LB…Best receiver on worst cover guy…Double team great player and don’t block the guy who can’t tackle ME 5) Mix tempos…Destroying them with fast tempo and they’re dead legged…keep it going till drive is over (don’t sub)…Need a change up …muddle huddle and break to unbalanced and first sound snap 6) Mix cadence( first sound…Normal cadence…freeze cadence… check with me cadence) 7) Watch the route on RPO tag and if easy kill and QB didn’t throw then repeat play and signal to Q to throw to easy completion 8) Nothing is working and you’re down 49-0… run the clock and snap with 1 on play clock…Punt…Get on bus and Go home…Smile…It’s still the best job in the world

Simple Pure Philosophy Of Winning Championships 1) Minimal of average talent ( preferably above average) 2) Overcome minimal injuries with adequate replacements 3) Belief in the process 4) Leadership that is action over words 5) Unique and different “star Performances” week in and week out 6) Coaches and players never allowing selfish egotism to take precedence over the team goals 7) Respect of each other ( don’t have to like each other but mutual respect is a must) 8) Players overcome “poor coaching” at times…Coaches screw up and great teams have players who can overcome their coaching 9) Defense that rises to the occasion and never watches the scoreboard…they just go out and get stops when necessary 10) Offense that can muster one crucial first down when the game is on the line 11) Players who can overcome family drama, overcome personal life and love crisis 12) The majority of the team and the coaches have a goal that is “bigger than themselves” 13) The team finds joy in the journey, in the difficult work, in the common pursuit to work together for that single moment of hoisting the trophy It is never easy to climb to the championship and leadership beyond “common” is required most of the time. Occasionally a team will have so much talent they can overcome themselves and skip some of these steps…But those are rare

Playoff Push Adjustment To Quarterback: 1) Build on exactly what he’s good at and what he loves and has confidence 2) Eliminate what he has proven He CAN’T do 3) Keep his weapons healthy in practice and blowout games…Without someone to make plays he will become “Just a Guy” 4) Make a video of great decisions he’s made in games and emphasize that’s how you’ll make a run at a championship 5) Consistently communicate about life outside of football…Keep his head in good head space… 6) Give him examples of great comebacks from behind and upsets great qbs have produced 7) Show him a game of Brady or Manning throwing 2-3-4 interceptions to remind him that everyone is human and makes mistakes 8) Daily remind him to control the controllable ( watching and studying opponents, diet, sleep, leadership) 9) Remind him that “big numbers” don’t necessarily win championships…Just win 10) Remind him that Big Time Players make Big Time Plays in Big Time Games 11) Consistently remind him to have a short memory…Play one play and then the next…Whether it’s a TD or a tipped interception…Play the next play 12) Remind him that this is the greatest time of life…Playing QB in high school is a thousand times better than most things in life…Enjoy it

Gigantic Upset Wins…How to pull them off??? …Vanderbilt showed the way 1) Best opportunities for big plays to upset a better team come on 4th and 1 or less…Vandy play action deep throw for TD…Be willing to get ridiculed if it fails…But u don’t care because you’re in it to win it 2) Be the most physical team…Vandy whipped Bama up front and made their Bama defense look soft 3) Have a “killer” QB with no fear….Diego Pavia for Vandy is a freaking “War Daddy” playing QB…He is what the game is all about…Overcomes physical shortcomings of “experts” and kills opponent with unmatched intensity and unique skill set 4) Have a simple executable plan that seems complex to the opponent…Bama defense looked unprepared as they got outflanked, out angled, and definitely out maneuvered with shifts , motions, etc 5) Respond during the season properly and professionally to heartbreaks…Vandy should have beat Missouri on the road and Ga State but lost heartbreakers…Players kept fighting and believing because of incredible leadership Finally…Vandy pulled off best win of the history of their school because everybody was all in…the administration made exceptions on transfers to get them in school, the head coach made dramatic staff changes…. And finally the head coach brought in maybe the best coach in football(Jerry Kill) to be his advisor The anatomy of an upset takes many moving parts but it starts with everyone being “all in”

It’s the second half of the season…who wins championships? 1) Talent…At least average 2) Details…The coaches and players who don’t get bored with doing the details daily 3) The most excited teams to play on Friday night…Being excited to play is worth a minimal of 8 points 4) Healthy…Coaches smart enough not to beat up their teams in practice for the sake of their ego 5) Coaches and players who stay in the moment and “where their feet are”…instead of already planning their college life as a player and career move as a coach 6) Teams that genuinely care about each other and respect each other… 7) Coaches who ask the “right questions” about players and assistant coaches lives and what they need 8) Coaches who adjust… this team isn’t the same one you started August with 9) Coaches willing to take risk to win against a team 20 points better ( 4th and inches on their on 29 yard line in the first quarter and they run QB throwback for 71 yard TD) 10) Coaches and players who respect and treat the bus driver, the assistant trainers, the water carriers, the administrative assistants, the student managers, and their opponents with respect, admiration and gratitude Winning championships take talent…But talent alone won’t win them
