So Kraus tells the best coach in the NBA he has one year and to take a hike, and Dean Smith tells his best player to go pro because it’s what’s best for players future... I’m learning about what separates good leaders from bad leaders...Ego
Tiger is one off of the lead in a major, Al Harrington and Jermaine O’Neal are guarding each other in the post (Big 3 league) and Bartolo Colon pitched last night. What year is it?
The more games I watch, international, G-League, College, etc. The more I become convinced that the common denominator for success on offense is pace. Cut hard, move hard, screen hard, run hard. Simple things that make the difference. Oh and make a shot.
It’s been three weeks since I’ve held this blessing. I told the doctor that her job was to put me in the position to get back to my daughter and I’d do the rest. Today is a good day!
After being let go from IUPUI, I have been able to reflect on this coaching journey the last few weeks. The thing I come back to is, relationships mean the world to me. And through this first ten years of coaching, I have made some amazing ones!
I recently finished a study where I analyzed 10k jump shots from 5 of the best shooters in the world (IMO) both NBA and Euroleague. I wanted to see how passing effected their percentages.
Heading back from Final Four… flight got cancelled so we are driving, but this is the way it should be. We came here as a staff. Did almost everything all week together. A connected staff= a connected program… we are headed in the right direction TOGETHER!

Said goodbye to Texas today. An amazing place with amazing people.
I can’t wait to start this next chapter under the leadership and mentorship of
@lancecirvin
with
@ChicagoStateMBB
so pumped for the opportunity he has afforded us!!
Relentlessly pursue your dreams!
I can’t let this one slide... I went two days with your approach of “stay at home until you don’t feel sick” during those two days my lungs filled up with infection to 19% capacity. If I would have “stayed at home” for 5 more hours I would have died. Not the best take here
1. Stop testing healthy people. 2. If you feel sick, stay home until you don’t feel sick any longer. I’ve had the flu several times in my life. Do you know how many times I’ve ever had a flu test? Zero. I don’t understand this testing obsession.
Finished my first practice plan as a head coach. Was really cool going through all my old ones as an assistant. Blessed to be able to pull ideas from so many brilliant basketball minds. Hopefully I can be half the coach as the guys I was blessed to learn from
Is the head coach calling you and your family? Have you and your family met the whole staff? Is the whole staff involved in your process? Does the staff have a plan for you? Important questions! Even more so in today’s landscape! Go where you’re wanted and needed!
on what was categorized as good passes the shooter shot 49.9% from the floor, on bad passes that percentage dropped to 27.8%… my conclusion… good passers can help make good shooters!
My daughter said “I love you daddy” tonight for the first time… if you know what we’ve been through and how hard my wife has worked to get to this point you know how special that is. God is good man, God is good
It shocks me how many guys I recruited still talk to me even while at another school. They check in on me or congratulate me. Means the relationship I built with them was authentic.
6 years ago today we started a journey together and over the last two weeks I have been even more amazed by you. You are the best mom Abigail could ever ask for and to me you are the strongest person I have ever met! Happy anniversary
@sme23
When we recruit guys to IUPUI we promise them one thing, that their dreams become our dreams. These guys have BIG DREAMS, and with the work they’ve been putting in, they WILL become reality!! Love being with this family every day!
#MBK
Woke up so excited! It’s my daughters 2nd birthday! My life changed forever 2 years ago! There’s nothing better than being her dad!! I love you Abigail!
IMO, in skill development teaching the why and what is almost important as the how. Why am I driving this direction? What happens when this happens with help side? Why is my footwork this way? What happens if the ball screen is hedged this way? What is my read off ballscreen?
When you see a tweet that a coach is tending to his family and is out a few games, not a great look to ask him about job openings on the staff. Some ya all savages 😂
Watching some of the best offensive players in the world, I’m convinced they are far less concerned with the guy actually guarding them and are more concerned with the B and C defenders. The guy in front them, is already beat. The equivalent of chess to checkers.
Per sources (her mom): my daughter said her first words today “dada.” Big if true. Still waiting on official statement from said daughter. Palpable buzz in the Strine household
Picked this idea up from
@CoachBechler
in his book “The Leadership Playbook”: Kids pick up on the coach’s consistency – you can talk all you want about what kind of culture you want, but the kids are watching and if you aren’t consistent then your words will not hold up
What a ride it’s been. Started as a volunteer whose office was in a shoe closet, to living in the nations capitol, all the way to Texas on a leap of faith, and now living my dream at home. Can’t believe year ten is almost here! Gonna be the best one yet!!
#JagsHunting
On phone the last 3 days getting college coaches to our guys games in July. Working 10 years in D1, it’s a duty to use my relationships to get these kids exposure to the right level and in front of coaches so they can live their dreams. That’s the Tri-West difference!
So proud of this group man… playing with 6 guys due to injuries, they never give up. 3 games in 5 days all on road… they BATTLE!!! Our program will always battle! It’s our DNA!
#GroundWork
Walked through the door today from work and as I’m taking my jacket off I see my daughter crawling to the front door to greet me for the first time... today was a good day
Any AD looking for a head coach. I’ll save you some time and money. Take ten minutes, throw in the last 10 minutes of Baylor/ Nova. Ask who the defensive coordinators of Baylor are, and draw up the contract. I’m doing this free of charge for you.
I can’t express how proud I am of the Iron 6! These 6 are RESILIENT…down to 6 because of injuries, they show up every day and battle their own injuries, and play for each other! Resiliency will always be a part of our program and these guys personify that!
I categorized a good pass as, the shooter did not have to reach further than half an arm length outside of his frame. A bad pass was when he had to fully extend his arm to catch the pass or had to twist his body to catch it…here are the results
🏀 will truly take you places. 3 years ago today I was at the Great Barrier Reef, 2 years ago was in Venice. 1 year ago was starting my journey in Texas and today I start the next chapter of my dream in moving to Chicago! The Lord does amazing thing through amazing platforms!
Been 110 days since we left Katy, the last time all five of us were together. Can’t wait to get back together with some of the best dudes in the business!
