I have spent a great deal of my adult life grappling with this issue. My current view is that Jesus never intended to start a new religion. Some of the things I have learned recently about Paul and the formation of the New Testament have really shaken me up, and I'm honestly a bit disappointed with myself for never being curious enough to find out. I feel very gullible. I think Jesus wanted to teach the Jews how to experience the realization of oneness, so they could then spread that realization to the world and ultimately transcend religious exclusivity. Something very different happened instead. Regardless, Christianity has had a massively positive impact on the world, but I can't help but wonder if it still pales in comparison to what could have been. That said, I believe everything happens for a reason.

@oliverburdick You don't believe in Jesus. In fact, you spit in his face with many of your posts.

@oliverburdick Christians worship Paul's God. Jesus didn't start Christianity, Paul did. Paul never met Jesus...didn't even bother to meet his disciples before preaching his own gospel. He hijacked Jesus' message from the Jerusalem church, distorted it, & started his own religion.
