Book recommend for 12 yo pls. He enjoys reading, emotional content is tough e.g. a parent dies, lengthy tension/suspense. He liked Terry Pratchett, James Herriot and non fiction e.g. horrible science. #autistic adults might know of some books? #ActuallyAutistic #reading #books

@DanielTheBoone Thanks for sharing. It irks me when parents claim it as their great parenting when their kids interests fall in line with their own. That's just luck. I'm into growing food, my kids aren't, they help out occasionally.I made a choice to live here and grow food, they didn't.

@naomicfisher @_MissingTheMark My 9yo daughter, out of school, recovering from autistic burnout has suddenly started to teach herself tunes on the piano, she's writing stories, learning how to edit videos and singing her own beautiful songs. All fiercely self directed. It's like an explosion of creativity.

@jdurran I dip in and out of reading; more in the winter, much less in the summer. Perhaps I'll read on holiday. I've had years when I didn't read much, but always come back to it. With two autistic, demand avoidant children, I know the power of 'in their own time'. Books always around.

We already have to commission private healthcare reports because parents voices are not listened to. The irony of getting an SLT assessment for eldest when I myself am an SLT 🙄
