Yet here you have the Vice President of the United States laying out a vision of AI as a tool of domination, thereby programming domination logic into its DNA from the start. Calling this short-sighted would be an immense understatement... The step from AI as a zero-sum tool of national supremacy to a tool that would apply the same logic of supremacy to its human creators might be very short. The silence around this from top AI figures is incredibly loud. It sadly reveals an old truism: principles quickly dissolve when it serves power, even if it may unleash an existential threat. Tolkien would have recognized this pattern all too well.
