Thompson Road will be closed between Highway 119 and Stadium Drive tonight (Dec. 2) and tomorrow night (Dec. 3) from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night for utility relocation. While Thompson Road is closed, traffic will be rerouted onto Stadium Drive near the ACS Central Office.

It's almost that time again! The Alabaster Fire Department will escort Santa Claus through the city on Christmas Eve as he visits with local children at several stops throughout the day. See the attached schedule (3 pages) to find out when he'll be stopping by your house!

Renovation work is well under way at Veterans Park! Crews are renovating the baseball/softball fields (including adding synthetic turf), adding pickleball courts and installing a new playground, among several other improvements. The renovations will be complete this spring.

We hope everyone has a fantastic Labor Day weekend! As a reminder, city offices will be closed on Monday, and residential garbage pickup will run one day later than normal next week. All curbside rubbish and yard debris pickup will be done the following week.

With the recent addition of final striping and a new traffic signal on the new extended southbound turn lane from Highway 31 to I-65, the Highway 31 repaving and turn lane modification project is officially complete! We appreciate ALDOT partnering with us on this project.

As we announced earlier this year, Veterans Park will soon be getting some major renovations! Work has begun to renovate the baseball fields (including adding synthetic turf), add pickleball courts and install a new playground, among several other improvements.

The Alabaster Public Works Department will be repairing a sinkhole in the roadway near 1111 Independence Drive this Thursday, Aug. 17. The repair work will last through the day on Thursday, and will remain gravel for about two weeks to allow it to settle before final paving.

Renovation work has begun on the Jim "Peanut" Davenport baseball field next to Larry Simmons Stadium! Once complete, this facility will serve as a first-class home for Alabaster youth baseball and the Thompson Warrior eighth and ninth grade baseball teams.

Congratulations to Gustavo Perez and Nicholas Geissler on being sworn in as the Alabaster Police Department's newest officers this morning! Perez is a U.S. Army veteran and Geissler is a U.S. Marine, and we're proud to have them here in Alabaster.

Come celebrate the newly opened Patriots Park off Industrial Road with us next Friday, Aug. 4! We will have an official ribbon cutting ceremony at the park at 4 p.m., and then several food trucks and bounce houses will be on site for residents to enjoy.

We have been informed that CSX plans to close the Highway 119 rail crossing at 14th Avenue Southwest (near the ACS Central Office) at 6 a.m. tomorrow, July 11, to smooth out the paving. The repair work will last until tomorrow evening and we will advise when the crossing reopens.

The new Patriots Park off Industrial Road is almost complete, and we can't wait to announce the date of the grand opening ceremony! However please note that the park is still considered an active construction site and the park is still closed to the public until work is finished.

The National Weather Service has placed all of Shelby County under an excessive heat warning from 11 a.m. tomorrow, June 29, through 9 p.m. on Friday, June 30. High temperatures and humidity will create heat indices as high as 112 degrees in some parts of the area.

We have been informed that CSX plans to close the Highway 119 rail crossing at 14th Avenue Southwest for about 24 hours one day next week to smooth out the paving. We do not have an estimated date and time yet for the closure, but will post that information as soon as we have it.
