@lexpurp the majority, in my opinion, identifies as both—Black american & creole when getting specific. but when describing the culture itself, it would be historically inaccurate for us call the roots of our traditions 'american' & that's what people are in an uproar about

last & important part that these arguments weren't empathetic or considerate of is that cultural history aside—new orleans had to remind the nation that we were american in 2005, only to be called refugees & left on rooftops waving american flags.

@PadriRancho & to your point about the instruments, yes.. but the rhythmic styles were inherently Black & derived from the african drum circles in congo square. improvisation, call & response came out of these circles & were core elements to the development of jazz
