@KamranMatin @TOClimates @Kamran Yes. And as you say above, nothing wrong with establishing the general category if it facilitates more concrete sub-categories. But neither of these are possible if we start from a pseudo-concrete category like Western colonialism which lacks a solid theoretical basis of its own.

@KamranMatin @TOClimates @Kamran Giving a typology of 'multiple colonialisms' just begs the question- what makes these all instances of colonialism? To me this suggests colonialism is better understood as a general category for a form of relation between individual societies, not macro-cultural categories

@TOClimates @Kamran Good point. I guess it hinges on how much work we think 'the West' should be doing re colonialism. If it ends up artificially cutting off the connections (conceptual and practical) between Palestinian and Kurdish struggles then maybe it's less useful @KamranMatin
