In our inaugural piece, 𝗚𝗔𝗠𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗘 looks at the new EFL TV deal, which takes effect from this evening.
What does the deal include? And is it worth it?
We are disgusted by the scenes in our great city tonight. In absolutely no way do we support these scenes of thuggery or street violence. Law & order is on the decline, and this greatly worries us all.
If you wish to help clear up, please meet at 8am outside The Peacock.

Rough figures but following this transfer I've got Chelsea's player amortisation costs running at £267 million per year
Or, in other words, their annual amortisation cost is more than the total revenue of every non-Big Six club in the EPL in 2022/23
BREAKING: Joao Felix is scheduled to undergo a Chelsea medical tomorrow, with the fee understood to be £42m fixed plus £4.3m in add-ons, which could make the deal eventually worth in excess of £46m 🚨
Since 2014...
Alvarez - cost £9m, never owned him
Eboue - banned from football before he could play
Johnson - sacked, in jail
Gibson - mutual termination, caught drink driving
Rodwell, mutual termination
Djilobodji - sacked
Ndong - AWOL
It's class supporting Harchester United.
Jack Rodwell was an
#SAFC
player for 1,422 days. Conservative estimate (ignoring bonuses and image rights) suggests he took home c. £14.2m in wages. The club spent £10m on his transfer. £24.2m for a player who started in a total of one league win.
#SAFC
's misrule in a microcosm.
If you need an idea of how League One we now are, Aiden McGeady's shot over the bar just hit someone's car. As they were trying to drive home from the game.
Incredible that the moral gymnastics of some have now reached the point where one of the richest sovereign wealth funds in the world is apparently being hard done to
They've spent £400m+ on players inside two years btw
If it's €30m Chelsea would pretty much break even in accounting terms on Koulibaly's sale, while shifting £8m amortisation and £15m wages off the books for 23/24. £23m boost to their FFP calc. Knock-on effects of these deals are huge - and the actors behind them incredibly murky
Understand opening bid from Al Hilal to Chelsea for Kalidou Koulibaly is around €25/30m. Negotiations will continue in the next days. 🚨🔵🇸🇦

Three year deal offered to the player.

Arsenal posted a big pre-tax loss of £52.1m as they finished 2nd in the EPL in 2022/23
@Arsenal
figs:
🔴Revenue £467m (⬆️25%)
⚪️Wages £235m (⬆️11%)
🔴Wages to rev 50% (⬇️7%)
⚪️Operating loss £57m (⬇️3%)
🔴Player additions £251m
Gross transfer spend over last five years: £835m
They borrowed £25m from
#SAFC
. Promised to pay it all back. Now they've written off that obligation. And blame FPP for a £20.5m reduction in assets.
They sold 20% of
#SAFC
for £1, valuing it at £5. Now they want £35m.
This is why I've disliked them for so long. So should you.
"Were you concerned it was too big a job?"
Alex Neil: "Too big a job for me?"
Whatever happens in 12 days, he walked into complete chaos and has done an outstanding job
Five months ago
#SAFC
lost 6-0 at a club just out of L2. Tonight we’ve had 10 men for an hour v a team two years out of the Prem, yet we were in the game until the end and it was them willing full-time. Give Alex Neil whoever he wants and a five-year contract and be done with it
Well, this has broken me. I know it's trite to say we need/want players that care but if this doesn't show you how much football can mean to people then I'm not sure what will.
I'll say it now and especially now: Lee Cattermole is Sunderland through and through and the club would have been a lot better off with more like him over the past few years
One year ago today, Stewart Donald and Charlie Methven signed an agreement to buy
#SAFC
.
Since then?
🔴 3 new owners
🔴 1 new manager
🔴 16 transfers in
🔴 25 out (plus 2 sacked)
🔴 30 wins
🔴 21 draws
🔴 6 losses
🔴 97 goals for
🔴 50 against
🔴 1 cup final
🔴 30k new seats
Confirmed. Two years of the best resources the third tier of English football has ever seen have resulted in the worst two finishes in
#SAFC
's 140+ year history.
Two years with everything cut, nothing built; academy decimated; thousands of fans misled and disillusioned.
Enough.
There's something reassuring in the fact that no matter who the players are, who manages them or who owns the club, Sunderland will absolutely always find a way to do my fucking head in.
Since Arsenal and Sunderland last met at the Emirates Stadium in May 2017, Arsenal have spent an estimated £673m on new players.
#SAFC
have spent less than £7m
"At last. After 1,386 days, 182 games, 86 wins, 35 defeats, 285 goals for and 181 against, 102 first-team players, four managers, three chancers, two chairmen and one sweet, sweet, Saturday afternoon in May, Sunderland are up and out of League One."
🔴⚪️
We often hear the EFL Championship is a financial black hole - but how bad really is it?
In an attempt to visualise the problem, here's a grid showing pre-tax losses over the last decade
Key figs:
💰Collective net loss: £2.9 BILLION
💰Annual loss posted by 181/214 clubs
This is a bloke who said he spent £40m then later admitted it was £15m. And we have no proof it was more than £5m. This is a bloke who told everyone he'd be here through good and bad then hid when it got tough. This is a bloke who called fans abusers and liars.
#DonaldOut
Loads to unpack but simple truth is:
#SAFC
fans have been misled again. Coaxed into supporting a falsehood. And those who orchestrated this are idiots for trying to hide it.
A new 'owner' had a chance to rebuild trust and he's blown it to bits. Well done everyone
To understand why
#NFFC
and
#NUFC
operated as they did this weekend, here's the (estimated) upshot:
🔴Separate deals meant
#NFFC
booked £9.4m PSR profit in 23/24 - vs £3.4m loss if players swapped and amounts netted off
⚫️
#NUFC
booked £35m PSR profit vs £22.2m if straight swap
Since Ellis Short became
#SAFC
chairman, the club has earned almost £600m in revenue, with another £50m or so to come in this season. They have been reduced to free transfers and loan signings and are about to be relegated to League One. It is negligence bordering on criminal.
In 2007 Mike Ashley tried to wear black and white stripes in the Stadium of Light boardroom and was told where to go
Current
#SAFC
hierarchy have handed over an entire end of SOL and allowed the visitors to redecorate
They know the price of everything and the value of nothing
Atrocious. Sign 45 wingers, play only one of them and stick him centre mid for 20 minutes. Complete nonsense of a formation throughout. Kids at the back hung out to dry as we've sold all their competition.
It's a mess from the top down and it's unravelling before our eyes. Again
Kyril Louis-Dreyfus: the club has been victim to "asset stripping".
He sits with Madrox members at games.
Kyril Louis-Dreyfus: "It is my desire to lead
#SAFC
with openness and transparency."
They won't tell us who owns how much of our club.
Time to back words up with action
Re
#NUFC
PSR panic, sale profit would come after deducting est. book value:
⚫️Alexander Isak £42.5m*
⚪️Anthony Gordon £29.5m**
⚫️Bruno Guimarães £21.8m***
⚪️Yankuba Minteh £4.9m
*Sociedad owed 10% over £62m
**Big assumption, contract length unknown
***Lyon owed 20% over £42m
Four years to the day since Santiago Vergini scored one of the most well-taken own goals in history. And Gus Poyet's Sunderland career was sent irretrievably downhill. Increyable.
Saved the club? It's dying in front of our eyes. Stop enabling it and stop turning a blind eye because they did a few podcasts and like a pint. They're an absolute disgrace.
People who own 59% of Sunderland AFC still haven't repaid millions they took from the club to buy it, but club won't rule out, and are strongly hinting at, increasing season ticket prices for potential fifth season in the third tier during a cost of living crisis
#OneClubOurClub
With Amad Diallo almost certainly having played his final game for
#SAFC
, here, for absolutely no reason, are all 2,010 times he touched the ball in a Sunderland shirt in the EFL Championship
LLLDLLWLDWLDDLDLLLLDLLDLDLLDLDWLWWLDLLL
Sunderland's home league form over the last 20 months. 26 points from a possible 117. Five wins from 39 games. 34 goals scored and 70 conceded.
Worth bearing in mind the next time someone questions the club's supporters.
Three years ago in May,
#SAFC
's U23s competed in the final of the Premier League International Cup, a European competition.
Pre-season results this year:
Consett (H) 2-3
West Auckland (H) 1-5
Whitby Town (H) 0-2
What has been done to our club's future is absolutely disgraceful
1,004 days of the worst ownership in our club's history ends and it isn't a moment too soon. Right to the end Stewart Donald was full of delusion and outright falsehoods.
But they're done for,
#SAFC
is still here and there are a lot of reasons to be hopeful.

A ‘sport’, apparently…
The dream when they took over - buy it using club money, get promoted, flip it for a big profit - has died.
#SAFC
is worth less than in 2018. Future is bleak. The club is worth nowhere near the £35m.
Everyone wants you gone. Accept you've failed and sell fairly to good buyers.
There we have it then.
#SAFC
's current owners wrote off £20.5m of club money they used for their own purposes. Now they want fans to commit £300+ to potentially watch 23 home matches online.
They are either greedy or desperate. Or both. They need hounding out of our club ASAP.
There we have it. Stewart Donald wants £37.6m for
#SAFC
. We have NO evidence the owners have committed more than £16.4m of their own money to date.
Meanwhile youngsters sold for quick cash, fans denied refunds for months and club withering on the vine.
Disgusting and shameless.
Jack Clarke during a very good 2022/23 season: 9 goals in 47 EFL Championship games (a goal every 442 minutes)
So far this season: 7 goals in 9 EFL Championship games (a goal every 113 minutes)
From the wing
He is quite good
As expected, the club owned by one of the richest and most repressive governments on the planet beat the club that is currently running its stadium off a generator
The real disgrace here is that
#SAFC
sold its own fans down the river because
#NUFC
gave up their gate receipts
A player who Man City nabbed from Cardiff, and did so with ease under rules that let Tier 1 academies take players from Tier 2 ones at minimal cost. Cardiff fought their case and got £500k - which City have recouped 22 times over without him playing a first-team game. All wrong.
Manchester City 18-year-old Rabbi Matondo at Schalke completing his medical with a view to £11.29m transfer. Buy-back likely to be around £30m while sell-on alternative around 25% of any future fee
Inside the last year,
#SAFC
fans have collectively: pushed the club into coming clean about who actually owns it, successfully lobbied against a season ticket price increase and, now, got the club to rethink its operations and (hopefully) improve customer service. Fans have power
I know there's a bit of fortune involved with a couple of the touches, but our second goal yesterday was one of the best team goals we've scored in a long time. Jordan Willis popping up on the right wing a particular highlight 👊
37,480 tickets bought, during the worst period in
#SAFC
's history, in little over 48 hours by a fanbase that one owner claimed were 'known in the game to be an issue' and 'not attractive to potential investors'.
Never forget how absolutely full of shit these people are 👊🔴⚪️
ℹ️ Our ticketing allocation for the Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final has been increased to 43,960.
The additional 6,480 tickets will be on sale to supporters eligible to purchase in phase two from 3:30pm today.

FPP Sunderland Limited has been registered as a newly incorporated company at Companies House in the last 24 hours. The business has three directors:
Glenn Robert Fuhrman
John Cartwright Phelan
Robert Michael Platek
The company's registered address is the Stadium of Light.
We wanted KLD to have majority control and, while it's not the complete removal of the current trio that we hoped for, it is very much a takeover of
#SAFC
(EFL won't be an issue) and the reign of some of the worst people to ever darken our door is done.
Merry Christmas 🎄🍻
We've long wondered when
#SAFC
would 'bottom out' and, well, I think this is it. Not this game, but this whole period. Painful to say but we're a bog standard, mid-table, League One side. That's it. It's numbing. Fixing it is a huge job. That pitch tonight was a symbol of neglect
Charlie Methven resigned as a director of
#SAFC
on 6 December 2019.
Why was he in the Directors' Box on Tuesday, sat next to the chairman?
Why was he part of managerial recruitment process, two months after a Supporters' Collective were told he has "no day to day involvement"?
James McConnell currently playing in a League Cup Final at the age of 19 for one of the best teams in the world. Sold to Liverpool from

Here's one of
#SAFC
's owners claiming the club is only up for sale because of fans, that we've demanded the same of the last five owners, that we did so when the club was 7th in the EPL, and that he and the owner received "thousands" of letters from fans asking them to stay

are 59th out of 91 league clubs. Not won since November 2nd. We have 9 points from 9 games in the third tier.
The chairman seems to think all is fine and the atmosphere is the best it has been in 18 months.
Delusion will destroy the club. He and his pals need to go. 🔴⚪
Stewart Donald was one of the most damaging individuals in
#SAFC
’s long history and pushed our club far closer to administration than many ever realised. I could (and did) go on for a long time about how dark and unsavoury his time in charge was. I’ll leave it at good riddance 👋
He's got more integrity than any of the pathetic losers involved in running
#SAFC
right now. Fine him, sue him, or whatever, we'll all crowdfund for him too 🔴⚪👊
Sunderland investigate after youth-team star labels club hierarchy ‘cowards with no class' for letting go his father & legendary kitman John Cooke without any public acknowledgement despite 26 years in role & six years as a player

which SD claims he paid (or will eventually pay).
Handily, for liars like me, accounts at Companies House show the cost of
#SAFC
to Madrox. Sure enough, it was...oh...awkward. Only £612,000 out.

's window summarised...
- 10 permanent departures (av. age: 28)
- 9 in (av. age: 22)
- 4 permanent (av. age 24.5)
- 5 loans (av. age: 20.6)
Loads you can draw from it but, if nothing else, it's a clear culture shift from what has come before
As of today, I believe individuals from the following have all called for
#SAFC
to change ownership ASAP:
- The Times
- Daily Mail
- The i
- The Northern Echo
- The Chronicle
- Sunderland Echo
Add to that a majority of fan groups and fanzines.
We now need concerted pressure 👊
#SAFC
need money so are selling one of their brightest prospects for £500k. Meanwhile the current owners - after we accept that £9m came from FPP - still haven't paid back money lent from the club totalling FORTY-ONE TIMES that amount.
And we are meant give them a fresh start?
Lost 13/46 games last season, already at 10/23 this. Lost three attackers who combined for 30 goals, top-scoring new signing has 4. Signed 10 outfield players in summer and other than Jobe they've played a combined 14% of available minutes.
There's your data

Saw last season that a young team can and will wilt on a bad day. Answer was to remove all experience from the squad and bin a manager well-known for being good at handling young players. Nowhere near as smart as they think they are
