Last week I was devastated at the news that one of my best and closest friend, Ryan Whyte Maloney @RyanwhyteMalon1 died. How do I sum up our friendship in just a few paragraphs? The truth is, I can’t. Even though we both have busy lives and didn’t talk all the time, we were buddies and a quick text or call here and there, and plans to meet up kept us in contact. It was our love of music that was our bond. We collaborated on several productions and songs and he was always willing to let me take the stage with him, which I was always honoured to do. We recorded songs in his home studio, TruNorth Recording Studio, which I also had the extreme pleasure of sitting in with several talented musicians there. And even being a fly on the wall at a live gig to watch his genius mashing two or more songs together while laughing and enjoying some Apple Crown Royal or Tito’s. I don’t know if he ever truly knew how much that meant to me. And I can’t even mention the number of trips after a gig to get tacos and the shenanigans that entailed! If you see his music on a @touchtunes jukebox somewhere, it was I that put it there, but it was he who kept it there and added additional music with his association with so many others. I met Ryan before he was on @NBCTheVoice and was so proud of him for turning all four chairs in his audition. But it was a long journey and a lot of friendships and broken relationships along the way, too. Ryan always had a certain way about him that would make everyone feel a part of his life or at least part of his show. He was a mentor and giving in his craft. I always said he was “Bigger than Life!” with the “Voice of a Cherub”. And smile that lit up the room! And the storytelling! Well, lots of stories to tell and lots that I just can’t tell. Tonight some of us are gathering at @olered in Las Vegas where he was one of the resident musicians along with his band mates. I’m hoping to see some familiar faces and reminisce about how the world will miss Ryan’s talent but that we are so grateful to let us watch him shine while he was here. He was an amazing father, son, brother, family and friend. You will forever be missed, Bro.
