Following Elsevier's decision to raise the APC for NeuroImage to $3,450, all editors (inc. EiCs @fmrib_steve @tobergmann @BirteUta) from NeuroImage and NeuroImage:Reports have resigned, effective immediately. I am joining this action and have also resigned

@hcp4715 @giladfeldman @PCI_RegReports I think it's a sign of the endemic overwork of academia, + an indicator that we need more recommenders at @PCI_RegReports to sustainably handle the ever-increasing rate of submissions. In many ways it's a good problem to have, but against the backdrop of an overworked sector.

@aeryn_thrace @dagmardivjak @Rate_RegReports @PCI_RegReports Conclusion: the power to improve the quality of RR evaluation is entirely in our hands. Move away from publishers, support specialised community initiatives (like @PCI_RegReports) and in doing so open doors for everyone, including ECRs.

Nearly 12 yrs after Registered Reports were first introduced in the neuroscience community, and after being disinterested in RRs for many years under previous editors, it's good to see @NatureNeuro finally offering them. Change comes slowly but it comes.

@lakens @annemscheel @cksoderberg @AoifeOMahony15 Yeah manuscript is in prep which we'll post as a preprint ASAP. In the meantime, the thesis reports the totality of the work.

@annemscheel @lakens @cksoderberg @AoifeOMahony15 Key takeaway from Aoife's work (which we are currently preparing in manuscript form): Registered Reports appear to working as intended. And there is a tonne more work to be done to uncover the nuances of how they differ & to optimise them w/i psychology and across fields. Enjoy.

@moritzingendahl No direct experience of my own, but word is they don't really know what they're doing with RRs and have rejected submissions for strange reasons. Would tread cautiously and have low expectations going in.

@lakens @ignaziano Read your excellent EBT article yesterday. Do you ever feel that we're approaching a future in which Registered Reports will be seen as the only form of preregistration that actually means anything? I remember thinking this back in 2013 & everything seems to be heading that way.
