. That’s me! A few months after this photo I got called up and got to be on the same infield as these
@Phillies
legends!
16 years ago today I made my
@MLB
debut with the
@Phillies
against the
@Brewers
. Double switched into the game in the 6th inning as the catcher and my first official stat as a Major Leaguer was from committing catchers interference when the batter swung and hit my mitt

20 years ago this is totally unacceptable. now, totally acceptable,and I love it. If you hit a walkoff feel free to do cartwheels around the bases.And please save it with the “act like you’ve done it before” nonsense. He’s an all star with 14 years in

Went from career minor leaguer to a Major Leaguer with the
@Phillies
. Got the call from John Russell and then
@RAJr_20
I was certain I was dreaming. I still wake up regularly and wonder if it was all a dream!
OTD 2008: Amazing performance by

backup catcher

(left), who doesn't enter until the 8th inning but still goes 4-4 including a walkoff single in bottom 13th for an 8-7 win over NYM at Citizens Bank Park.
12 years ago at this exact minute, this was the phone conversation I had:
John Russell: “Costey, get your bags packed you’re going to Philly.”
Me: “what?”
John Russell: “get your bags packed, you’re going to Philly, you’re going to the big leagues!
Other than winning the World Series in 2008, this was the best and most memorable moment of my career! Still on my feet, still have goosebumps
@Phillies
14 years ago today this was the phone call I received from John Russell: “get your bags packed, you’re going to Philly, you’re going to the big leagues!”
Thought I was in a dream! To this day it still feels like a dream.

For anyone who wants to know, this is what it means to be a professional baseball player:
My job was on the line every single day. Thousands of guys wanted my job. I had to perform. That taught me work ethic.
What a night! What a year! Somewhere on the bottom of that pile is a

jersey wondering how a kid from Fargo, ND is on the bottom of a World Series dogpile!

Source confirms multiple reports the Phillies and LHP Matt Strahm are close to a two-year deal. A reported $15 million.
Trea Turner: 11 years, $300 million
Taijuan Walker: 4 years, $72 million
Matt Strahm: 2 years, $15 million
I’ve played every level of baseball there is to play. 15 years of pro ball, 2008 World Series, 30,000 fans in Venezuela and Mexico winter ball, but the MN State Amateur tournament still gets me emotional every time! What an atmosphere!
As a college coach and recruiter we are always looking for talent. But we also NEED student athletes who LOVE the game. Show me a kid who loves the game unconditionally and I’ll show you a kid who is also a great teammate and easy to coach.

If you’re have an off day on the Florida trip, what do you do? Beach? Disney? If you’re the
@CobberBaseball
coach , you take the family to the
@Phillies
spring training game against the
@tigers
. Baseball 24/7!
Maybe the funnest minor league game I’ve ever played in. Caught 12, pitched 4, threw a wild pitch, committed a passed ball, and got the win. Can’t imagine that has even been done in professional baseball at any level
I’m around 18-22 year olds everyday and if you know me you know how strongly I feel about how amazing their generation is. More than any other in history their generation has the power to change the world and make it a better place! And they will!
As this article came out yesterday I was flying into Philly looking down on the ballpark. It’s been 10 years since I wore the
@Phillies
jersey but not a day goes by that I don’t consider myself a Phillie Phorever! What a ride!

I firmly believe if every kid had the opportunity to play a team sport, or something similar, all the way through college the world would be a much better place to live and we would all get along a lot better. Not perfect, but better.
@40AcresBuilt
@mlbelites_
Because the batter should have ran to 1st. He didn’t and cost his team the extra out. Don’t blame the rule, blame the batter for not running
Bucky still throws 45 minutes (or more) 5-6 times a week. He’s 71 years young and hadn’t thrown a baseball in months. On Feb 1 he shows up and throws 45 minutes worth of strikes! One of a kind!
@CobberSID
@FMRedHawks
@cobbbuckyball
Bucky Burgau turns 71 today and is just now entering his prime. He could jump out of bed right now and throw 45 minutes of batting practice and throw nothing but strikes!
@CobberSID
@CobberBaseball
One of the most important days of my career. The significance of this opportunity cannot be overstated. Without the RedHawks my baseball life would have ended after college! This was a major stepping stone towards the major leagues

TODAY IN REDHAWKS HISTORY - February 6, 1996
The RedHawks announce that Fargo native and Concordia All-American Chris Coste will attend preseason training camp.
Drew Maggi has played over 1000 games in the minor leagues grinding for a chance to play in the Majors
At age 33, the Pittsburgh Pirates have called him up to the Show.
I’m admittedly very biased on this one, but I’ve caught both Cliff Lee and Brad Lidge, and faced Roy Halladay, so clearly no wrong answers, but if it’s 2008, we call 3 Brad Lidge sliders and win the game!
@CMBaseball41
#WorldSeriesChamps
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… the
@Phillies
need a North Dakota guy on the team if they want to win the WS. Not a lot of North Dakotans have played in
@MLB
but those who have, have a ring!
#GoPhils
Matt Strahm is a former 21st-round draft pick who graduated from West Fargo High School in West Fargo, N.D.
And he just earned the save that put the
@Phillies
in the NLCS for a 2nd straight year.
@MLBNetwork
12 years ago today I just got back home after celebrating in a World Series parade with the
@Phillies
. One of the first things i did was head to the lake and went fishing on Nov 2. Here I am again in November 2. What a life!
I’ve had more amazing baseball experiences than I can count, this is near the top of the list! My elbow hurt for 3 months, well worth it! I threw a wild pitch AND committed a pass ball. Can’t imagine that’s ever been done in professional baseball
12 years ago I just finished BP in Miami before a game against the Marlins. I check my voicemail and it’s my wife telling me her water broke. Happy 12th birthday to this amazing young lady. Wise beyond her years and full of life, she never ceases to put a smile on our faces!
Baseball has given me an amazing path in life and has blessed me more times than any man deserves! Now that path brings me back to the
@FMRedHawks
. Excited and thankful to wear

again.

Barrel the ball. The most obvious, yet most overlooked aspect of hitting. Mechanics are great. Having a plan is great. Bat speed is great. Launch angle is great. Hand-eye coordination (barrel the ball) is by far the most important ability a hitter can possess
HITTERS: Your top focus to become a great hitter is to simply barrel the baseball. Once you can do that consistently- regardless if that's in the air, on the ground, or on a line- you'll be able to learn how to drive the ball and do damage because you have the hardest part down.
Now that our younger generation has stepped up, there seems to be plenty of people looking to knock them down. I’m around this younger generation everyday. “Literally” everyday to use their term. Pretty impressive generation if you actually pay attention.
In competitive athletics, no matter how talented you are or how hard you work, if you don’t LOVE your sport unconditionally (even on the bad days), and if you don’t watch it as often as possible (because you love it) you will NEVER maximize your potential.
#PASSION
I’ve been a part of some amazing games in my career and this one ranks near the top! The catcher got hurt in the 1st, so the 2nd baseman had to catch, the CF had to play 2nd base and a D2 pitcher who didn’t hit in college had to play RF, got 2 hits and a homer!
#WhatAballClub
For those college recruits who think you need to play D1 to play pro ball: Tonight a D3 guy and a D2 guy threw 8 innings of 1 run ball against the first place St Paul Saints. Bottom line: if you’re good enough, you’ll get your shot.
@Michael_Hope2
@TaylorBloye
This senior class has left their mark and they will be used as a benchmark for future upper classmen! They did their job: they made the
@CobberBaseball
program incalculably better, and most important, they are incredible role models for the entire
@CobberSID
family
#leadership
Congratulates Senior Cobber baseball players, you supported each other through injuries, setback, personal loses, illness, and finally the cancelling of your senior year. You did it through laughter and tears, you did it with tenacity, patiences, grace and respect!
#rollcobbs
I’m a believer in modern day analytics, but of the many things I like about playoff baseball is analytics won’t win the game. Teams who don’t bunt are now more likely to bunt. Big plays, big hits, and making pitches win games. Love playoff baseball!
If you love baseball, there’s not many things better than watching constant highlights and live look-ins on
@MLBNetwork
. Ok maybe winning a World Series in 2008, but that’s about it...
9.30.2007
Phillies were 7 games back in the NL East with 17 to play. Entered this final game of the season tied for 1st place. Here’s the top of the 9th inning.
Mark my words, several players from this year’s
@FMRedHawks
roster will be with a
@MLB
organization at some point in their near future! And
@BrennanMetzger
might be in Hollywood or a backup dancer to
@taylorswift13
Asked
@chriscoste27
what his message to the team was toda.
He said there’s very little baseball being played around the world right now so there are a lot of eyes on them & that’s an opportunity.
No one knows better how Indy ball can change your life like this World Series Champ
This guy!
@CobberBaseball
couldn’t be more proud to call him a teammate. An amazing young man who continues to show perseverance and resilience through the toughest of times. The world needs more people like
@crich_baseball

After a long day of scans we are celebrating. As of today I am officially in remission and done with chemotherapy. Radiation will be in the early fall. Thank you all so much for the support. The battle isn’t over yet but the light at the end of the tunnel is looking very bright!
As a
@fargo_post2
alum, couldn’t be more proud of this program. Year in and year out they represent Fargo and the entire region with their dedication and success. I tip my cap to the coaching staff for all their hard work over the years as well. Well done!
This team left it all out on the field falling just short
54-8 record
ND champs
Central Plains Champs
ALWS runner-up
Thank you to Coach Rustad, Coach Linstaedt, the players, and parents for you commitment and dedication to Post 2 Baseball
#LiveTheTradition
Happy Birthday to the youngest 68 year old the world has ever seen. I’ve been around some amazing people in my life and
@cobbbuckyball
is at the top of the list. Nobody sets the integrity bar higher than this man and few have had a profound impact on so many lives
Now that I’m older and see things different, when a team wins the World Series I mostly want to see the reaction of the coaching staff! The work they put into a season behind the scenes most of us could never imagine and we will never know most of their names or contributions
The two most common types of athletes: the “Try Hard” and The “Work Hard” The “try hard” will try hard during practice and games but that’s about it. The “work hard” is all in 365 days a year. The work hard is more likely to realize potential, the try hard will not.
#WorkHard
2 awesome things happened today: First-my 11 year old daughter beat me in HORSE. Second-I put on jeans I haven’t worn in 10 years and found a $20 bill. 2019 turned out to be great afterall
#JeansStillFit
It’ll take some time to sink in but I take solace knowing that our
@CobberBaseball
players have built an unbreakable an unparalleled bond through their experiences together on and off the field that is infinitely stronger and will outlast the pain that we all feel right now.
Landed in Florida with the
@CobberBaseball
team! 🌴… Game 1 tomorrow vs St Mary’s. No better way to start the season than opening with a conference rival in 80 degree weather!
@MIACathletics
Stars lost to the Mudcats
@MMudcats
5-4 tonight, but it was a great game overall. Colin Richards
@crich_baseball
pitched in the 9th inning and looked pretty darn good. Next game in Paynesville tomorrow at 1:30.
BREAKING! Sources close to the situation tell me that spring will be held in Florida this year and summer will be held in Vegas.. apparently North Dakota and Minnesota couldn’t come to terms with Mother Nature on spring and summer.. plan accordingly
Amazing moment! 3 things: 1-that curveball from
@BackWoodRebel39
was ridiculous. 2-the catcher wasn’t smart enough to keep the ball 3-how does Pat Burrell beat the catcher to the mound?
#2007NLEastChamps
Watching
@MLB
on
@espn
and listening to
@AROD
talk about abolishing the shift. Ridiculous. I’ll say this, if you can only hit the ball to one area of the field, it’s a weakness, regardless of how strong you are or your avg exit velo. And at that level, all weaknesses are exposed
Tough to hear the news about Jim. Truly a great baseball man who impacted more lives that any of us will ever know! “A life is not important, except for the impact it has on other lives”-Jackie Robinson.
Fargo Post 2 is incredibly saddened to report that Jim Pettersen passed away today after a battle with COVID-19. Pete was not only our leader & the face of Post 2 but a great friend.
Our sincere condolences go out to Sandi, Sara, Leslie, Jamie and the entire Pettersen family
Another
@CobberBaseball
season in the books, and my last as head coach. Couldn’t be any more proud than I am of this team. They got more out of their ability than any team in Cobber history and represented our program with integrity on and off the field! Love this team!

👏👏👏 for the Cobber baseball team on an outstanding season!
People ask me who the toughest pitcher I ever faced was..she is it. Struck me out twice in a game and the third at bat she had me 0-2. I grounded out to 3rd and felt like I hit a homer! A month later I was on
