I am tweeting these pictures of my very good friend, Maurice, his lovely wife Yvette, and the brilliant NHS staff who nursed him from the brink of death (COVID-19) in Lewisham Hospital to going home today after 70 days. I can’t stop smiling and I want to share the joy!
Ted the Skeptidog has thoroughly investigated (over 20 minutes!) and can now confidently declare that there is no monster in Loch Ness. Case closed! Oh, hang on, wait a minute…

My daughter heard Ted the Skeptidog making little crying noises so went to investigate. Ted is VERY brave, like all skeptics, but Tom the cat can be VERY scary…
On Friday, I attended my father-in-law’s humanist funeral. Everyone agreed that the celebrant, Bill Barker, did a wonderful job. The day was about the deceased, as it should be, not about God. Thank you
@Humanists_UK
I completed my Half Dom today - a 15-mile virtual race in honour of Dominic Cummings’ infamous 30-mile trip from Durham to Barnard Castle “to test his eyesight”. Took me over 3 hours - in several 30 minute runs over 2 weeks. Can’t wait for my medal with Dom’s myopic face on it!
Humanist marriages are the most popular weddings in Scotland and now they’re legal in Northern Ireland too thanks to
@Humanists_UK
. Now for England and Wales!
Thanks Danny! It was a great experience taking part and huge thanks to you and the team for being great company along the way. So good to meet so many members of the
#UncannyCommunity
too.
It was our last
@uncannypodlive
show with the excellent
@chriscfrench
last night. What a send off at a packed Glasgow Theatre Royal
@KingsandRoyal
- what a venue! Now on to Darlington and Belfast where we have the brilliant
@jourdemayne
joining us!
This is the bell in the dressing room at the Lemon Tree, Aberdeen. It is said that if you ring it, the ghost of a little girl will appear. I did. She didn’t.

Ted the Skeptidog would like you to know that he was almost as excited as me to actually see a real copy of my forthcoming book, The Science of Weird Shit!
I do hope you like it! If you do, please consider leaving a review on Amazon. If you don't, I would not expect you to take valuable time out of your busy schedule to spend on such nonsense! 😉
Every morning Ted steals one of my slippers and runs off with it. He seems to think it’s funny. Of course, I have to open the bedroom door for him to make his getaway...
Fancy doing a PhD on sleep paralysis and paranormal beliefs with me and
@ProfAMGregory
at
@GoldsmithsPsych
? Then hurry up and get your application in - deadline is 2/11/20. Please RT. Full details here:
Just finished listening to
@PowrCorrupts
podcast and the
@audibleuk
version of Corruptible, both by
@brianklaas
- every bit as excellent as I expected them to be. In a Klaas of their own, you might say...
Publication day is finally here for my book, “The Science of Weird Shit” published by
@mitpress
. Did I mention I had a book coming out? On my way to
@OxLitFest
to give a talk with that very title!
A few of you have heard me tell the story of the houseproud mouse that was mistaken for a ghost. Here's a link to the video evidence. Enjoy!

Ted loved the hotel we stayed in in Glasgow. A box of dog toys and a nice man to play with. Now on to Inverness (with a quick visit to Loch Ness so Skeptidog can check out this monster nonsense)!
#UncannyCommunity
The hotel staff spotted Ted bidding a sad farewell to the treats jar - so they cheered him up by giving him a second doggy welcome pack. Ted will be giving them a very positive review on Trip Advisor!
I'll be giving a talk on testing paranormal claims at
@GoldsmithsPsych
at 4 pm on 21/3/24 (copies of my book, "The Science of Weird Shit", will be available for purchase). The talk is free but ticketed. Also available to watch online via Teams.
Had a wonderful wonderful time in Copenhagen, shamelessly promoting my forthcoming book, “The Science of Weird Ships” (or something like that) in the Science and Cocktails talk series (the cocktails were fab!).
He will but he’s also got his fan club in Greenwich. The lovely staff at
@rgcafegreenwich
have just spent literally 30 minutes making a huge fuss of him to welcome him home. I hope his celebrity status does not go to his head!
I'm looking forward to giving my talk on "The Science of Weird Shit" for Bedford Skeptics at 7 pm tomorrow (18/1/24) at North End Social Club, Bedford. Did I mention I have a book coming out with that title on 19 March?
I am writing a chapter on sleep paralysis and would be grateful if any sufferers would be willing to send me accounts of their own experiences for possible inclusion. Nothing would be included without the explicit consent of the person involved. Email c.french

I’m on my way to Southampton University to take part in a debate about UFOs. I fully expect to be thrashed in the debate as the audience is likely to consist mainly of believers in the ET hypothesis. But I got used to that on the
#Uncanny
tour so I’ll survive 😉
I'll be giving a talk on "Putting paranormal claims to the test" for
@PubSci
this Wednesday (19/7/23) at 7 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm) at the Old Kings Head Pub, King's Head Yard, London SE1 1NA. Free but you need to book. Only a few tickets left.
