When my aunt’s husband died in 1994, she married a woman in 2005, did all the Igbo cultural thing & everyone knew in our village that she married a woman that would later give her 3 children. The world did not end & the land did not break into two.
Who says these related possibilities are not acceptable in our culture? How dare you say things as this was an abomination in the Igbo culture? A culture that you don’t know about? Please
Why do you stress? When you can divide your tomato stew base into two and make both jollof rice and spaghetti at the same time so you have two different meals to your eating CV.
Uzoma’s pronouns are “they/them”, not she. You misgendered them severally in this tweet. And would you in any way allow an openly queer person hold a commissioner position in your state?
I am delighted to congratulate Uzoma Chioma Asagwara on her historic appointment as the new Health Minister and Deputy Premier of the Province of Manitoba, Canada. This is a remarkable achievement that showcases her dedication, excellence, and leadership in the fields of health
Taught my first undergrad writing class today.I opened with Beyoncé’s Alien Superstar in the class speakers before talking the main thing because we are trying new ways & untraditionalizing for a less-pressured, less-tensioned classroom spaces. A small Professor here 🙂
It’s my birthday today. Send love & the best of wishes. I have written a letter to myself. It’s a glimpse into my soliloquy about the myth of life, age, family, living and dying. Read here if you can:
You’re gay and you are open and happy, straight homophobic people will torment you, you remain in the closet, they will torment you; you lie to yourself & marry a woman, they will still torment you, what exactly do straight homophobic people want?
It’s my first Christmas that I’m not close to home or close to family. But it’s good and also bad. Because sometimes, the best relationship is a distant relationship. But you have a lot of nostalgia & you want to cry because these family video calls can’t suffice.
ZIKORA is a short story that will be released Oct. 27 as part of Amazon Original Stories. The story follows a lawyer from Nigeria living in Washington, D.C., she is abandoned by her high-powered lover after she learns that she is pregnant.
You mean when I leave my 20s and get into 30, you all Gen Zs will be judging my entire 30+ personality?. Even judging how I pose for photos? How I use emojis? You all will crumble 🙄 Purr IYKYK Not so rizz
First day of semester and first class of the year and starting with a seminar class by Ngugi Wa Thiong’o on normalized abnormality of post-colonial African novels in European languages. So fucking blessed.
Nigerians think when they call you “a gay” then the world will end for you or you’ll cry out blood? They don’t know we’ve been there since they been calling us “boy girl” & mimicked our walking steps in primary school. Straight people will not end us in this world. Eziokwu m.
When I remember how I was given a 1 week suspension in secondary school because I circled the words: “sex education” in the dictionary- it reminds me how Nigerian teachers always even felt it was a burden & tried to escape teaching puberty in Integrated Science classes.
I just finished writing recommendation letters for my 2 students, one is relocating & transferring to another university, & the other, going to study abroad. I wrote them in 2 days and sent out immediately. It is my obligation to do it with joy. Nigerian lecturers, take note.
Heading to the last weeks of the semester and my excitement is that I’m going to be reading and grading my students’ final papers about their personal ideas to racial and linguistic justice. Can’t wait!
Please, if you’re a homosexual man in Nigeria & you have the capacity & ability to marry a woman, please marry. Navigating an intense homophobic society where heterosexuality is forced upon you requires anything you can do to survive this oppression you can’t control.
